Hi everyone! I’ve just rediscovered Scalextric after 40 years and refurbished my old cars and track. I’ve also bought quite a bit of Sport track and some new and new to me cars. My new circuit in the loft is 50:50 Classic and Sport, around 23 metres in length and on 3 levels, powered by the Sport powerbase with 2 transformers. I’m considering an upgrade to Arc Air but am concerned that with only one transformer it may not be powerful enough and have been exploring this on t’interweb and the forums, now including this one! As the pictures show, it’s not pretty (I can’t really do scenery because from time to time it will have to be dismantled for a while) but it races very well!

I really like ARC Air - the wireless controllers will be great upgrade for your loft track and the app features certainly add more to your racing.
As for power, a common upgrade for ARC Air is to use the Scalextric/Hornby digital power pack, giving 4 amps instead of 1.5. It is direct plug-and-play. There’s also a Toshiba laptop p/s that does the job for a quarter of the price, so here: https://slotracer.online/community/showt...hp?tid=755
As with any fancy lap counting system, there are some caveats with ARC Air… First, not all smart devices are compatible with the powerbase or the app. If you have an iPhone or iPad, you should be fine. Android or Fire are more hit and miss. An alternative ‘Magic’ app is another option - and that works on Windows tablets too. The second issue is that cars need to have black guides to trigger the sensors. There are black replacements for any Scalextric blue, Carrera red or NSR white guides - so no big issue.
