So recently I got the slotcar bug, and am very happy to be rediscovering my childhood with scalextric.
I'll keep it brief & to the point as I'd like some opinions wether to stick with scalextric or invest in another track/system
- I currently have a semi-pemanent setup on the floor, it's really my only option at this moment in time.
- The space I have for a track is 2.51m x 1.05m, or 8.23ft x 3.4ft
- I currently have the Scalextric Arc Air system with plenty of track & borders
My current situation is that I REALLY want a Carrera track (or maybe policar?) As I've heard the grip is better & the grooves are deeper, allowing you to push cars faster
I am aware that Carrera takes up a lot of room relative to Scalextric
With the room I have available, is it at all possible to build a semi-decent track with Carrera (my preference) or perhaps Policar (2nd fave)
I've seen some great track designs on here, would love to see if anything can be done in the space I have with Carrera but I realise this may be a longshot
Tbh I'm even tempted to buy Carrera track to just build an simple oval Daytona-style ring lol
I mainly enjoy setting lap times and seeing witch of my cars is fastest, mostly solo or the occasional race with my daughter. I do find that Scalextric cars come off the track rather easily.
Would love some opinions
Thanks!

I can't advise as I race on a 3 lane routed track but do have a 6'x4' Scaley Sport test track which does me fine for testing purposes and having a blast round with 7mm deep guides.
Hello Legitwizard,........given you available space, Scaley track is really your only choice,......Carrera and Policar will not get you more that a tight oval.
It seems like your issue with Scalextric track is that the cars come off too easily. Changing your track system doesn’t seem the best way of tackling this issue - working on the cars does.
I wrote a step-by-step guide for the Jadlam blog during the pandemic to help tame the Scalextric Ford Mustang GT4. It can be used to tune any Scalextric model, plus cars from other brands too. You can find it here: https://blog.jadlamracingmodels.com/tag/...ic-tuning/
Some basic pointers are the loosen the body screws, scuff up (or replace) the rear tyres and sometimes adding a little weight to the underpan. If your preference is to run without traction magnets, there’s a blog post about that too.
Another way to help control the cars is to use the ARC Air powerbase and ARC (or Magic) app - Carrera, Policar etc simply don’t offer anything like it. By using the Max Power settings and the Throttle Curve, you can make a tricky car more manageable and more fun to drive. It’s a great feature of a superb system - make the most of it!

Great thanks a lot, I appreciate the link & advice! I should really dive into tuning the cars, it seems a little daunting but also exciting as I love modifying cars in real life to make them unique I'm sure it'll be relatively easy to make a few tweaks here & there thouigh knowing me i'll get obsessed haha
I have a fairly decent Scalextric setup in my space I'm really enjoying it tbh, only 2x R1 corners in the entire thing & it lets me push (and drift) the cars fairly fast
I'll focus on the cars now, thanks!

Here is my current Scalextric track in the limited space that I have, I feel it's about as good as I am going to get if I like long sweeping corners like this setup has
If anyone has any adjustments they would make please let me know! Thanks
