well no more cars arrived since last week, so I decided to give the current 15 cars a bit of a shakedown.
Mountain View - BMW M3 -running very well and just the fastest run so far.
Bangers Racing - BMW 3.0 CSL - also very quick and on another day could be quicker than Mountain View car.
Bangers Racing - Alfa 156- just a little slower than the those above.
Brumos Porsche 911- This is just wickedly fast running small car. Lots of fun for the hosts here.
RoadRunners -Honda Civic - good enough to be threat on on the faster tracks perhaps.
Makem Movers- Camaro - was running well until I mishandled it.....back to Gerry to fix the body back on (sorry)
Harrisons Racers - Camaro - could be a great race between these two muscle cars.
Mountain View - Vauhall Astra - very smooth and fast for its Class.
Team Cube - Opel Calibre- very smooth perhaps lacks a little punch.
Brumos -BMW 2.8- slower than expected, perhaps too much grip on those ever so sticky tyres.
Team Cube - Rover SD1 - quite stable but also a little larthargic, tyres feel a little loose on the hubs perhaps.
RNLI Lifeboats Racing - Alfa Romeo GTA - our first Revoslot entry, holds the track well.
Harrisons Racers -BMW 320i - good steady runner.
RNLI Lifeboats Racing- Ford Galaxie- seemed to slow down over the run, found rear wheel had come loose. Maybe needs abit of attention.
Makem Movers - Sunbeam Rapier- great looking car and fairly stable for such a narrow model.

I wanted to see how it would run in near stock trim. So just tires were changed for visual affect as the OEM fronts were small and the rears not tall enough to meet the ride height requirement.
How did it handle in the turns. My bi annual testing had the car tippy so I added probably too much weight when I returned home.

Yes I think on these plastic tracks if the tyres are too grippy, the car struggled on the corners, the back of the car snatches the front out of the slot. And my track is VERY twisty so ideally you need a degree of rear wheel slip on the track to maintain good stability. However on the smooth wood tracks the car should run really well. The standard model chassis also had absolutely no give in it, to be honest I was expecting the entry to be a Chrono chassis type. So I have downgraded the model to a B class as it is basically a fixed chassis with a 21k motor.

Postie eventually bought my part (only took 7 days for first class!)
Cars built, tested, taped/blu tac'd and name written on chassis, ready to be packed and shipped to Graham

IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION
I am receiving 2 SRC Capris with standard sidewinder motor configuration.
They are of the older chassis/motor type configuration, and the motor is a S-Bell with reference F141X
So the motor did not appear on my “Eligible motor list”
As there is no longer any literature about on this motor, I have checked one of these motors myself using my Tachometer and at 12 volts and it is 20k rpm. Also I have checked the Magnetic downforce and it is quite low. So I will accept cars run with this older SRC motor.
The latest standard SRC Capris come fitted with a C2 26k rpm motor and are NOT PERMITTED

Sorry to have put you to any trouble. In my head it was just a boring Mabuchi 18k motor. It was only when I came to post it that I noticed it was an S-Can of unknown speed.
But I was reassured by the car's behaviour on my test track that i) it was a low magnetic downforce motor, and ii) that the 4mm ride height would negate any possible performance advantage!
I love puttering with gears

There's a great free Android app called - Giri -The RPM Checker, remove the rear axle with gear and it'll fairly accurately tell you what RPM the motor is running by the noise, I've double checked it with a laser tacho and it's pretty close so the tacho doesn't get used now.
If you try to measure the RPM with the rear axle still in the car the extra noise will confuse the app as to what speed it is you're trying to measure, motor or rear axle.
...works best with the motor in your hand rather than in the car
Apparently also available for ifones
Life is like a box of Slot cars...

I have Giri but it seemed to be getting confused with the fan noise spilling over from the power supply and was jumping around with its readings

I would say running it on my track that it would not have been equivalent to the new Black S-Can SRC motors at 26K rpm, but it was an option which had escaped my "Motor Testing programme" earlier in the year. Also received notification yesterday of another entrant sending me a very similar Capri.
So it needed to be checked out. I daresay that a couple of years ago the rpm would of this motor would have been found on the PSR or SRC websites, but it is not apparent now.
