Feb 11th 2022 - Rally Round 1
#1

Thanks again to Andy for the write up  Thumbup

Friday 11th February saw the first round of our Rally Cars.  This was the first round of the season where drivers had s chance to modify their cars, although not too much, for the races. Limitations on the motor are in place to keep racing fair and as close as passable, but racers have free choice of things like their guide, gearing and type of wheels, this enables racers to tune the car to their driving styles.    Much to Kens delight there was a distinct lack of a certain ‘De Tomaso Pantera’ which always causes a bit of controversy when it comes to racing.  As expected there was a range of cars racing from various different manufactures,  Scalextric, Scaleauto, and SCX to name a few, all with different motor configurations.  It was good to see a lot of different cars racing from current and past WRC cars to some classic Group B rally cars, and as you would expect the Subaru Impreza was a popular choice of car for many.
The heat races provided some close and interesting racing, with the only major technical issue coming when Jake crashed and dislodged a wire from the guide causing his Impreza to become unusable, but a replacement Group B Ford RS200 was quickly put in his place to allow him to carry on for the night.
So to the finals, the C final looked like this:
Andy in Green
Darren in Blue
Tom in Red
Kevin in yellow

All racers started well but the main fight for the lead was between Andy and Darren, both racers were producing good lap times and swopping places but in the end Andy managed to get the across the line first with a small lead, followed by Darren, Kevin and then tom.  Andy promoted to the B final.

The B final would prove to be a tough final with some fast racers in,
Paul in Green
Mark in Blue
Andy in Red
Eliot in Yellow

This was a very competitive final and anyone watching would think that it could have been the main final with Paul, Mark and Elliot all showing good speed throughout the race, but Mark in his Impreza began to pull out a good lead, thanks to some very quick laps and his car proving to be very stable, and there he stayed and took the flag first, Paul came in Second, Elliot Third and Andy, struggling with pace and keeping his car on track, brought up the rear.

Main final, the last and final race of the night for the top four positions of the night.
Ken in Green
Tel in Blue
Mark in Red
James in Yellow

The race everyone was looking forward to the fastest four drives fighting it out for first place and the chance to win the round 1.   All drivers were quick of the line and Ken was doing well keeping up with James for a good proportion of the race but a few too many offs allowed Tel and Mark to catch up and overtake him, although by this point James had built up a good lead and there was not enough laps left in the race for either Mark or Tel to catch him up.  James came through in a clear first place, Tel pushed ahead of Mark for second and Ken rounding off the pack.
