Race Report From Andy
This was the last round of our BTCC class as the last chance for drivers to those final points on the score board for this class. As you would expect the night did not disappoint with lots of very quick and close racing and a fair amount of trading of paint. With a few spoilers, wheels and other parts of cars coming off from cars it was almost as if there were actual touring cars racing around the track.
Mark was having issues with getting his cars to handle right during the heats, and kept coming off in the corners, and as a result this meant that he was not performing to his usual high standard.
There was a coming together between Elliot and Andy down the back straight where Elliot’s BMW 1 Series ended up de-slotting in front of Andy’s causing Andy to go into the back of him damaging the rear wing on Andy’s Civic, but nothing a bit of superglue wouldn’t fix after the round. James was going well with his vast selection of cars that he brings with him apart from one race where he had to stop and replace his rear wheel that was coming off. Richard was going well for a newcomer to the track still learning where to push around the track and where to take it easy; he was improving with each race.
At the end of the heat races Ken Elliot and Andy were tied in points having all had good races I their heats the only way to separate them was to go in who had the fastest lap over all their heat races as a result Andy was put into the main final with Elliot and Ken in the B Final. With all the heat races done it was onto the finals, due to the amount of racers turning up it was decided to just use the blue, red and yellow lanes to allow more marshals around the track
C final: Richard in red and Mark in yellow. Mark was hoping to put his issues from the heats behind him and try and progress to up the ladder to the main final having sorted out the issues with his car. Off the line Mark got off to a good start pulling out a good lead over Richard. Richard was going well and managed a few laps before coming off the track allowing marks lead to grow to just over a lap. Mark was going steady throughout the race with his more stable car and maintained a good lead from lights to flag with Richard putting in a respectable performance and coming in behind Mark
B Final: Mark in blue, Ken in red and Elliot in yellow. Elliot had an experimental approach to putting stickers on his car placing them on his rear wing to try and ‘stabilise’ his car. Off the line Elliot took the lead with Ken and Mark having a good battle behind him. Elliot managed to pull out a good lead during the race leaving Mark and Ken to battle it out for second. This was a good battle that went on throughout the race with Mark taking a small lead and Ken trying to catch up, but when ever Ken got caught up he struggled to pass and ended up coming off the track. That was until the last few laps where ken managed to put together a couple of good flying laps to get passed Mark and managed to stay there until the end of the race. So Elliot was in first Ken came in second and Mark was third.
Main final: Elliot blue, James red and Andy in yellow. This final was a bit calmer than the B final. Elliot and James got off to a flying start leaving Andy far behind. Although Elliot had his ‘flexible aero’ on his car again is wasn’t quite enough to keep up with James who, as usual, was on top form pulling out a good lead which is where he stayed for the whole race. Elliot was going well in second but just couldn’t catch up with James and Andy was having issues with staying on the track in third so didn’t trouble Elliot during the race. It ended up with James in first, Elliot in second and Andy in third.
