Goodwood Round 1 March 3rd 2023
#1

Race report from Andy:

This round always throws up a good mix of different cars. With a lots of different manufactures making cars that are eligible, Slot it, Thunderslot, Pioneer, Scalextric, Scaleauto, and Slotwings to name a few there is a wide range to choose from.  Add on top of that there are 2 classes in which racers can choose to compete in it's always a night of good competitive action.  Class B is for standard Scalextric and Pioneer American mussel cars, which although standard in their modifications can be just as fun to drive as the faster A class cars.  The A class type of car are cars that were raced before 1972, this year the rules have been changed to allow a few different types of motor just to mix things up even more.

The turnout for this week's race wasn't too bad but there was still some people missing, Paul still off with the dreaded COVID, Jake and Bobby unable to attend.  The heats were fast and frantic, with only 4 racers racing in the B class.  Terry was having a bit of a nightmare with his heat races and found in himself in and uncharacteristic place at the back in of the pack in the finals, so he will have to try and do things the hard way come the end of the night to get up with the nights fastest drivers. On the flip side Jason had a good series of heat races and made the B final, he is quietly getting better and better each week and before the season is finished he will have a round win.

D final. Alice in blue, Elijah in green.  Elijah got off to a good start just ahead of Alice, who came off on the first few corners. Elijah then came off on the hairpin allowing Alice to catch up and pass.  Both drivers had a few offs over the rest of the race but Alice kept ahead of Elijah and came home in first place with Elijah second. This was Alice's first win at Mussel Bay, so well done to her.

C final, Terry in green, Alice in blue, Evie red and Andy yellow. Terry being in the faster A class for the nights racing shot off the line and quickly opened up a substantial lead. To that left the other 3 racers competing for the B class victory. Andy got ahead of Alice and Evie at the start building a large lead by the end of the first lap. It was tight between Alice and Evie in the battle for third. Terry crossed the line in first place, Andy on second Evie won the battle between her and Alice to come in third  and Alice was forth.

B final. Jason on green,Terry in blue, Ken red Darren yellow. Ken got the best start off the line out of the four racers, this left Terry and Jason in a very close fight for second.  Darren was going well in forth but was packing the pace to catch up with the battle for second. Terry then came off at the hairpin allowing Jason to open up a gap over Terry, and allow Darren to catch up.  Terry then came off again a few corners later allowing Darren to go passed. Darren s lead, however, was short love with Terry soon catching up and passing. Ken crossed the line in first, Jason on second Terry third and Darren in forth

Main final. James green, Ken blue, Tel red and Mark yellow. This was a fairly Calm final withbal racers well behaved and quickly settling into their groove. James had the quickest reactions off the line pulling out a lead over the other three. Tel pulled into second place with Mark in third and Ken in forth. All maintained a steady pace neither of gaining nor losing time othe the other drivers. It finished James first, Tel second Mark third and ken forth.
