I recently acquired this group of used Slot.it motors and wondered if there was any significance in the different coloured endbells? Can anyone rank these in order of revs/torque or 'desirability' please?
There are two different shades of orange and three of brown.
I've heard tell of the 'notorious' dark brown endbell too. Notorious why? In a good or bad way and are any of these considered dark brown?

I think Maurizio has said in the past, there should be no difference, the motors were all manufactured to the same specifications.
It has been rumoured that the darker ones have the edge from some racers, I don't know if there is truth in that.
The squarer edged ones are newer and also rumoured to be better ...
The bright orange were originally listed as 21k, the ones with the mini pcb are sold now as 23k, but again Mr Slot.it says the specs are the same, it is just they have always been closer to 23k.

The dark red endbell shows this to be an Si-MX16 23krpm motor.
However, you cannot ID a motor 100% from the endbell colour.
Managing the qualiity of the colour of the endbell seems to have been a problem for slot.it, so much of a problem that they have abandoned this method of identification.
All new slot.it S-Can motors are white endbell and the motor ID is printed/etched onto the can.
MX16 "notorious" ???
Notorious for not being close to specification. These motors can run under 18k or over 25k.
Whether you get a good one or a bad one is sheer dumb luck.
The mx16 is my least favourite motor. I only use them when the ruleset for an event mandates this motor.

Most SlotIt motors I have are marked on the side of the can what type they are, i.e. DTM
You can use a smart phone app called 'Giri' to measure the rpm @12v
Life is like a box of Slot cars...

Thanks all.
So the bottom right is the Si-MX16 that might be good or bad depending on the luck of the draw?
The rest are probably 23k MX16's, although they were originally stated to be 21k - and the different colours are just production variations really?
However, point taken that mini (minute!) PCB cans may be better, as are squared off mouldings on the top of the end bell.
Like the idea of the Smart Phone RPM checker but neither me, nor my phone, are that smart!
I know the proof of the pudding and all that ... but curiosity satisfied.
Guess I've just got to USE them.

Due to the wide variations among most brands I bought a cheap hand held Tach and check them and write the RPM on the side of the can with a Sharpie. That way I have an idea of what to expect when I'm building something.
