UK HO Drag Proxy Series 2021-22 - Autumn Nationals - September
#51

One of the reasons things are a little late starting today is that the Brighton Speed Trials are happening. Usually I'd be volunteering 5am to 3pm as a paddock marshal - but not this year. Instead, I went along for an hour or so to say a socially-distant hello and look at the cars. Despite only getting the go-ahead from Motorsport UK and the local council last month, there was an almost full entry and nearly all the £15 tickets for the limited crowd have been sold. There are some pictures here: https://www.theargus.co.uk/news/19559248...ials-2021/

The delay did mean Pete had time to deliver nine cars - for him, Sue and Jerome, plus two new Street Stock cars for Anna and Mary...

Rose has kindly stepped down her Nostalgia Funny Car, giving us a new total of 67 cars to compete this weekend.

There are 16 in Street Stock; 12 in Super Stock; 10 in NHRA 4-Gear Funny Car, Pro Stock & Pro Mod; 8 in Nostalgia Funny Car; 7 in Nostalgia Magnatraction Pro Stock; 5 in Nostalgia T-Jet; 5 in NHRA Top Fuel; and 4 in Nostagia Micro Scalextric 2019. That does add up to 67.

First things first - some Best in Show judging for Rebecca. This is for all the new re-paints and scratch builds. Although Rebecca liked Nico's Lead Sled conversion, we decided the original liveries should go through to a final three...

It was exceedingly close, but Rebecca chose this glistening gold 350z...

Congrats to Kev on a first HO paint job that was very well done Thumbup

Meanwhile, Rose has just woken up from her latest nap - tired out after her visit from Pete, plus a rather large helping of the Dreamies sent by uncle Clive...

Street Stock Eliminators - Round 1

Eight first round races started with top and bottom qualifiers, Jane and Kev...

Although Kev improved on his best qualifying time, this was an easy 0.120 second win for Jane's Nissan - the ETs 0.621 to 0.747.

This was the classic 8th vs 9th place qualifier bout... but Mary had an awful start, allowing Sue a 0.076 second win. Their ETs were 0.707 and 0.753.

Iain's Boxster was no match for Nico's Veyron - a 0.047 second win and ETs of 0.651 and 0.693.

Clive's Dreamies bribe worked. Rose let him win by 0.076 seconds - 0.640 to 0.704.

Would 'Smokey Joe' make it down the strip in one piece? It did. Was it quick enough to beat Pete? It was. A big 0.119 second win for the Veyron - the ETs 0.633 and 0.736.

This one was the humdinger of the round. Jerome up against Anna. I'm not sure of their exact relationship - cousins? aunt & nephew? - but this race was family affair. Jerome got a horrible stutter at the start and had to pedal hard to catch up... Had he done it? The win margin was 0.001 of a second  - in favour of the Audi. Congrats to Anna who scored a great holeshot win - her ET was 0.708 and Jerome's 0.695. The lad will be fuming.

Back to a routine win for third place qualifier Bill in this North American bout. Ken's ET was 0.724 and Bill's 0.633 - the winning margin 0.098 seconds. USA 1 - Canada 0.

Finally, it was Rebecca vs Andy - Porsche vs Alfa. The Alfa has been uncharacteristically quick today, but Rebecca's Porsche was quicker - a winning margin of 0.040 seconds and ETs of 0.670 and 0.705.

Round 2 coming up soon...

Street Stock - Round 2

Jane saw off Sue with relative ease - a 0.075 second win. Their ETs were 0.609 and 0.690.

Next were Nico and Clive - 4th vs 5th qualifier. It was close, but the Audi always looked like is had the Veyron covered. Clive's winning margin was 0.019 seconds - the ETs 0.621 and 0.638.

Would a Veyron be beaten by an Audi in race 3? It wasn't really close - Jeremy clocked 0.626 to take a 0.070 second win. Anna's ET was 0.695.

The fourth race of the round was a bit closer, but Bill's DB5 had the beating of Rebecca's Porsche by 0.035 seconds. Their ETs were 0.622 and 0.654. That made Bill the final car through to finals - second to fourth making quarter final runs of 0.621, 0.622 and 0.626... However, Jane's was 0.609.

Semis next...
