TR7 Proxy - August 2021

Ade - let us know if your George Turner TR7 will make it. If not, I am sure there will be another time Thumbup

Unfortunately it's looking like it's not going to be ready in time so I'll have to sit this one out.  Between work, children's birthdays, wedding anniversary's, house renovations and the return of club racing (meaning any slot car time has been spent building a 3d chassis'd Carrera BMW M4 for that), the "ample" time I though I had appears to have evaporated.  Really don't want to rush the kit either. A real shame, but at the same time, it'll be good to keep it just to the scaly refurbs, I'll still be watching with interest and looking forward to the next refurb challenge for sure!

No worries Ade! There will be more refurb challenges. I'm sure you'll be taking notes over the next few days.

Here are our eight TR7s, ready for action...

Having checked the cars for suitability - the Ninco road course will be replaced by the Pavilion Ice Rink. And I just want to clarify that the hillclimb will take place on my Scalextric Sport office track, rather than the SCX Classic Devil's Dyke layout - sorry for any confusion there. Maybe next time.

The schedule will go something like this...
  • Thursday: Car presentation + under the hood + Best in Show voting starts
  • Friday evening: Test One - Pavilion Ice Rink
  • Saturday morning: Test Two - Skid Pan
  • Sunday evening: Test Three - Hillclimb + final results
I'll post a YouTube video on the forum for each, plus results and standings. The coverage won't actually be live, but you'll see all the cars making their runs.

I put a touch of glue on my body screws to maintain my very precise body float setting and ensure they didn't fall out over the course of the Proxy. Good luck getting under my hood (or maybe do the reveal at the end?)

My 7 will be entered into the 'classic' class of whatever Rally events I can make it to.

So I glued the co-driver seat shut to stop him getting out.

Thanks Andy,

Good looking bunch of cars, especially considering what they started out as.

Hope that they all go a bit differently, and you enjoy running them...

This is the official start of the event. So let's introduce you to the cars. Anyone for TR7 Top Trumps?

Best in Show Competition

This will be judged by SlotRacer forum members - basically anyone who is following this thread, including the competitors. Think about the looks of the car - the stance, the finish and what you can see underneath. Then decide on your three favourite cars - favourite first, then second, then third - and either post them below or send me a private message with your choices. You can't vote for your own car!

Best in Show standings will count towards the final competition result. The winner gets no time added, second gets one second added, third gets two - and so on up to seventh place adding six seconds to their total.

Votes will be counted just before the final test - around 5 o'clock on Sunday afternoon. By then we'll know which cars perform as well as they're turned out.

Race coverage

Tomorrow's action - on the Ice Rink - will be posted around 7.30pm
Expect Saturday's skid pan test around 10am
Sunday's hill climb coverage is scheduled for late afternoon - around 5pm.

Hi Andy, and everyone else who stumbles across this thread....

Just to confirm the body on my entry  GPA113,  is infact a standard Scalextric body, just without the front bumper, as, err...it didn't have one Rofl

As its a race car, not a rally car, it doesn't need the extra spotlights I reckon...

Just wanted to say, when I started doing up my old cars for when my baby boy is old enough to play with them, I had no idea one of these old cars would generate so much interest and turn into this.

Some great looking cars have been created from a model I actually hated when I was a boy, I think you’ve all done a rubbish Scalextric car proud Thumbup

In the spirit of the event, I have cast my vote for 'Best in Show' before seeing which of my opponents are faster than me and need time penalties!
