Bummed that I missed this one; touring car proxy would have been a good, and sounds like they've got some good tracks over there!

I would tend to believe that on any "taped" tracks, the contact surface would be slightly proud of the running surface...........a bit of masking tape on either side of the slot on your set up block should work just fine to replicate this for setting your front end.
Braided tracks are generally recessed, and plastic, can be either, depending on the brand.

From what I've seen all braid is recessed yes, though the braid itself is (should be) flush with the track surface, not below or above, of course there are those tracks where the braid recess has been cut too deep making the braid site below the track surface or the braid recess is too shallow making the briad sit above the track surface.
