Brighton to John O'Groats Road Race -Proxy Event 2021 REPORT
#61

What a great day's racing. Thanks Andy.

Megane :
-Sub 70 despite an off. Lifting the motor in readiness for the dyke tomorrow was always going be playing dangerously into roll&tip DeSlot territory.
Here's hoping that the compromise pays off on the rollercoaster descents down from the dyke in the morning.

Capri :
-A bit short on top end but No DeSlots ! The sprung  guide seems to be driveable which will be very  useful tomorrow I think.

Aventador:
... speechless! Go girl Go! keep this up and there 's a hydrographic  paint job in it for ya!.

Was going to ask you to share the Race Coordinator RC.DB file,  but maybe not!

I'm "All In" on Class B. Hoping the Bentley shows some versatility around all the different tracks.

Bentley probably too chunky for Class A, and I always knew the Mini was a Work in Progress, so might withdraw from Class C after Brighton to avoid further damage!

I love puttering with gears

From our ‘squads’ cars I think I need to invest in a test track. Some poor results from our cars.
Thanks for the stage though. Was great to watch though.

Apart from those cars on (or near) the podiums, I'd say these four were my favourite drives of the afternoon...

In other words, I can definitely see one or more being added to my wishlist Bigsmile

Ade and Jeremy... what can I say? Those little cars need plenty of weight down low. Your other cars were great - and you've both admitted the TR4 and Mini are works in progress. Both look lovely. The Mini could definitely do with a motor replacement - less revs, less torque. The TR4 chassis (or maybe the screws?) was dragging at times, which didn't help - but the main issue was the car tipped too easily. With some work, they are both going to be a lot of fun to drive.

Leo - The Race Coordinator data file was all part of Plan A... In the end Plan D (or was it E?) was alright, but missing a lot of the details I'd planned for. Thankfully I had a tried-and-tested lap timing alternative at hand.

Now it's time to start building the hill. It's going to be a long night...

If you're not acquainted with the Devil's Dyke Hillclimb, there's a scene-by-scene introduction over a few posts on this thread.

After today, some of our cars are not looking forward to the hill!

I did think the top heaviness of the TR4 may be an issue. Was fine until the interior went in and added a significant weight to what was a previously a very light shell. Plus it’s only ever driven on smooth Scalextric sport track. Think the grippyness of the ninco surface was its downfall

Wavegreen Hi Guys,

Here are the official results of todays Stage1 round

Having my own technical difficulties tonight, but hopefully they are all there now

I will add on the PDF files of the results which maybe better

But yes it certainly was a day full of surprises, personally very pleased my Mercedes Benz 300SL did so well for it's class, I can just imagine Sir Stirling Moss with a smirk on his face, keeping up with those Ford GT40's, if only... Thumbup

See you all tomorrow
