Greetings 
First up.....sorry for the delay in getting the results up for everyone to annalise.
Day 4 of the Dakar Rally-Raid actually took place last Thursday, but then I was away for a few days, hence the delay.
Some of you will have met me at the various slot car events down south, or possibly at Gaydon. I run my own club, Send Scalextric Race Club, but you won't find any information on the club, as it happens at our house, in my big hobby room. Hence it's by invitation only. I have entered, and run stages, at each of Graham's previous Dakar Rally-Raid proxy events.
I was very lucky the Scott (Talking Utter slot Podcast/ WHO Digital) offered to come and join in. He doesn't live that far from me, and it made a really enjoyable morning of 'playing slot cars!' Thanks Scott
In the interests of fairness we both took turns at driving each of the 4 categories. Scott didn't have any entries in the Proxy, I had a single Ninco entry. Vehicles ran in the order of their position in each of the box's, this was then reversed for the second stage. They each got 5 warm up laps, (to warm us up as well!) plus the first to go on each stage was also given a second run, to make sure that going first wasn't an unfair handicap.
STAGE 1 - NINCO OFF ROAD SET LAYOUT
A nice tight and twisty layout, with elevation changes, and a few Ninco clip in obstacles to spice things up!
This layout proved great fun! The Ninco and SCX models went best, the Procars were very varied, and all the bridge areas have to be raised to allow the Trucks to even get round the course!

Dakar Rally-Raid Day 4 STAGE 1
CATEGORY 1 . Driver - Pip
A good win for the NERC Mitsubishi Pajero, my own VW Touareg in 2nd, Woodcote' s nice BMW X5 completed the podium.
CATEGORY 2. Driver - Scott
Very close for the top spot. OXO Cubes VW Touareg getting it by just under 1 second from Woodcotes awesome Sandbuggy. 3rd to Bangers Racing Pajero Evo.
CATEGORY 3. Driver - Pip
A big win, by 10 seconds, for NERC Mitsubishi Lancer, very rapid! 2nd to very unusual Fordster of Groundhogs ( previously the AA Patrol van?) with another Mitsubishi Lancer in 3rd belonging to James A.
CATEGORY 4. Driver - Scott.
A run away win for BAracing. Well done Jeremy! This Truck is awesome. 2nd for Roadrunners Mercedes which proved troublesome.....the body kept detaching from its mounting points. Scott sorted it by using Blue-tac, worked a treat!
No other issues to report. Most of the Ninco and SCX models felt very much at home on this twisty layout, the Procars not so, apart from NERC Mitsubishi, whilst the trucks just wanted to knock things over, including themselves
What determined a good run was the ability to 'ride' the various clip in Ninco obstacles, particularly those on a bend, and the double set near the finish by the DS timing bridge. Great fun, and stage 1 complete.

STAGE 2 BBC! No not 'Auntie' Big Box Circuit!!
Between myself and Scott we then put together an altogether different style of layout for STAGE 2.
Keeping the timing bridge and tarmac hairpin in the same place we then used an elevated dune, which the track then went back under, before the big descent to ground level. This was a drop of 2ft 3". Following this was a second raised dune, then a devilish set of zig zag bends devised by Scott. A long left turn, then back up the 2ft 3" ascent, and a tight right onto the finish. The big elevation changes proved great fun! Going down tested balance and breaking, going up acceleration and power. Some Ninco clip in obstacles were added for good measure.

CATEGORY 1 - NINCO. Driver - Scott
Top spot to the BMW X5 of OXO CUBE, and the fastest time of any entry on this stage. Good job
Super close between 2nd to 5th. Just 0.35s separated the next 4 finishers....
2nd for the NERC Mitsubishi Pajero, 3rd James A's great looking Bowler.
CATEGORY 2 - SCX Driver - Pip
A win this time for the Sandbuggy of BAracing. A great drive, it flew both up, and down, the big elevation changes.
Really tight for the remaining podium positions, 0.30s separated OXO CUBES VW Touareg in 2nd from Bangers Racing Mitsubishi Pajero Evo in 3rd. Really enjoyed these!
CATEGORY 3 - PROCARS Driver - Scott
A dominant class win for James A. The Mitsubishi Lancer was so quick, and balanced on this faster layout.
Another 2nd for Groundhogs Fordster. Really cool this one. 3rd was NERC Mitsubishi Lancer.
Unlucky was Hot Laps Lancer. A late deslot at the final obstacles costing it a podium position.......
Scott really tried with the Bangers Racing Land Rover, but ultimately it was given a DNF, over maximum time limit. It just wouldn't go over the obstacles, at any speed.
CATEGORY 4 - TRUCKS! Driver - Pip
This was a challenge! No throttle input at all on the descent, very careful throughout the zig zag bends, and floor it up the incline
Super fun, and a much closer result, but still another win for Jeremy's MAN. Graham's Mercedes going much better on this track. So very different to drive. Cool!

STAGE 2 RESULTS
The DAKAR Rally-Raid is such a different, and often overlooked, part of our Slot car hobby. It is so different to just trying to go 'fast'. The track surface, obstacles, the diverse group of vehicles themselves, and of course what your imagination allows you to construct layout wise, all come together to provide a great fun experience.
Favourite entries??
I think both of us really liked the Ninco and SCX models. We agreed that with more practice time some of the Procars would be interesting, and the Trucks are a bit bonkers!
The Sandbuggys definitely got our votes, but ultimately my favourite was Roadrunners lovely Nissan Patrol.
It should also be noted officially that Scott hates the clip in obstacles on the Ninco track!!!
Big thanks to everyone who sent their lovely Rally-Raid models, it was a blast getting to run them all.
My thanks to Scott for making the morning so much fun. You are welcome back anytime.
And finally, a massive thanks to Graham for his continued efforts in organising these Proxy events.
He really does have this nailed. The plastic container, with smaller foam lined box's for all the entries is so well thought out. Thank you for once again asking me to be involved.
