Brighton to John O'Groats Road Race -Proxy Event 2021 REPORT

This was my first proxy event, so didn't know what to expect. I set my cars up on my home track and went for "forgiving" handling. After all, the drivers had 60 cars to run and very little time to learn the car, so wanted them to stay on the track at a reasonable speed.

Class A, 7th in class
Subaru Impreza
Deeper sprung guild blade
Body lowered by 2mm and run loose
Lights removed
BRM F22 tyres on rear
Substantial ballast
Other than that, standard in line original spec.

Did better than I had hoped, thought it may have been too slow. Was running quite hot on test runs, so expected a possible burned out motor with hill climbs. Fortunately, it lasted the race!

Class B, 12th in class
Honda Civic BTCC
Scalextric car with, loose, PCR chassis.
Boxer 2 anglewinder
15.8 Slot It air wheels at rear. BRM F22
15.8 solid wheel at the front. Original tyres.
Sprung guide
Ballast

This is a fast car at home and on the NSSRC track, with NSR Extremes. The F22's were a compromise, but a best guess for the tracks it would run on. Performed better, on earlier stages.

Class C, 1st in 70s Classic
Scalextric body with Amato lexan interior and glazing
Slot It HRS chassis with anglewinder Scaleauto  20k long can motor.
15.8 Slot It air wheels at rear. BRM F22
15.8 solid wheel at the front
Sprung guide
Minimal ballast, loose chassis

Was good on the home track, but performed far better than I could have wished, in the road race. The star of my team.

Hope the breakdown of my builds helps someone, but please remember, I am a beginner and may just have had beginners luck!!

Great event and thank you to Graham and his team of stage providers.

Hello Chris,
Your 911 was a revelation.  Have known those Scalextric Porsches for decades but never met one that ran like yours did.

Awesome!

Thanks Leo,
I'd done one with the Amato in line chassis for rallying. I had a second body shell, so looked if I could squeeze an anglewinder in. It fitted, so, " The Car is Born!"

Cheers Chris

What?  You only have two of those Porsches?  Most slot car enthusiasts have at least half-a-dozen   LOL.

I'm definitely the exception, I've been racing slotcars since before the real 911 was produced and I haven't got or had ONE, I do have a 3D printed chassis for one (bought for club members but I bought one too many so kept it).

I also have the wonderful memory of borrowing a real life Carrera back in the early 80's for a quick blast, the best car I've EVER driven.

Woodland Fort Cornwall cars have all arrived safely home, a nice surprise to find a bronze medal in the box, that is the first trophy I have won in slot racing for 24 years, pity it wasn't for driving Rofl

Thanks again for all the fun during these lean times, my first proxy but it wont be the last

Wavegreen Hi AlS,

yes I am planning  another "Road Race" for next year (end March), details are still evolving but it will be different from this year. The theme will be "American Trophy- Road Race" and although there will be 4 classes, entrants will be restricted to choosing which 2 classes they will enter (ie 2 cars per entrant).

I am looking to have the details posted at the end of the current Le Mans Cars proxy event.
