 SMSRC Results and Pit Lane Report Class B and C

It is done. After nearly 4 hours of running all heats have been completed   As we have a hard cut off time at T'Mill (they will literally lock you in there!) I will be posting the results of Class B and C only tonight, the rest to follow tomomorrow.

I'd like to thank everyone who has entered the proxy, it was very enjoyable racing some makes, models and methods of preparing a slot car that we at the club had never seen before. Some, of course, ran better than others, (which may swing back the other way at other tracks) but there were no dogs in the pack and all cars escaped unscathed and non the worse for wear.

Format;

We decided to make use of the space and extra pairs of hands available to us in the club and run two classes simultaneously on opposing lanes for daylight, then switch lanes for dusk. The same driver kept with the same class to ensure fairness. 

We opted for median lap to determine the positions, as one of my club mates pointed out 'best lap' has no bearing on the real Le Mans, but we felt any off would be punished too severely on a large track if using total laps. 

Median rewards the best cars, but allows the driver to push on, knowing one or two offs will dent, but not ruin the time.

Results;

Class B

   1st: Team Tatter Audi R8
=2nd: Bangers Racing XJ9
=2nd: Merseyspeed Audi R8C

Unbelieveable that after 6 mintes of hard racing in 2 lanes there was a dead heat for 2nd. Totally different cars to drive with Bangers Racing's XJ9 a rocket down the straight but the Merseyspeed Audi R8C smooth round the corners.

(Sorry I slightly messed up the podium as only has a 1,2&3!)

  1st: Mountain View Racing Ferrari 250 GTO
  2nd: S&P Racing Porshce 550
  3rd: Roadrunners Aston Martin DB1/2

Some very respectable times here and a surprise how smooth and quick the top 3 were. Cerainly a couple of these cars are now on my shopping list having seen how well they can be made to run.

   
   

A very hastly put together video now follows! I can assure you it was much darker in the mill than the video shows, the camera was just excellent at picking up what light there was.

Yes, the XJR9 was tested on my home track and at NSSRC, that's why it had the legs on the straight!

Thanks all! Looks like Luigi and his Ferrari 166 MM need to pray for some slow twisty tracks if they're going to have any hope of avoiding being dead last. And thanks for the great video (although not sure Ravel would have had 'backing-track-for-slot-car-racing' in mind when he wrote his string quartet! )

A couple of technical issues have hindered progress on posting the final results, but they are now in:


Class A

  1st: S&P Racing Porsche 911RSR
  2nd: Mountain View Aston Martin Vantage
  3rd: Wessy Racers Ford GT GTE

   
I was expecting this to be a very close class as they were all standard cars, but it didn't turn out that way.
Some cars were fast, some were smooth, but the S&P Racing Porsche 911RSR was just a little bit more of everything.



(Appologies I either forgot to take a picture of the podium or somehow deleted it, I will ask Graham to get the next host to take one and I will pop it into this post if possible.)

Class D

  1st: Team Tatter Ford GT MKIV
  2nd: Mountain View Ford [b]GT MKIV[/b]

A clean sweep for Ford (chances were likely!) in what felt like a very competitive and well prepared class of cars.
