After mulling things over and looking at those control tyres on Pendle I'm warming to the idea.

Have you used those tyres before Graham?...are they any good?

I have not used them, but I got the idea from East Lanc Club which use them as a control on their club track ( Policar) for their Slot it Touring cars, but they are said to be good on wood as well. I just ordered them to check them on my Slot it Touring cars for size before I finalise the rules regarding “Track” width.
Not sure they could be made to work on the Datsun or the Skyline as yet, although I would have thought the East Lancs Club races these cars together, but I will check anyway.
