The one thing better than playing with your own toy plastic cars is playing with somebody else's toy plastic cars! Thank you Graham and all the entrants for providing us with such an excellent selection.
For those not familiar with my home track you can find the build thread HERE. It is 2 lane routed MDF, 50ft in length, fairly long straights with enough twiddly bits to make consistent fast laps a suitable challenge. I normally run at 13.8 volts but turn it down to 12 volts for proxy purposes as Graham requests. As a rough guide to lap times - box standard Scalextric saloons would struggle to get below 6.5 seconds at that voltage while an unmodified Slot.It Skyline would lap consistently around the 5.5 second mark. Sub 5 seconds is seriously quick.
We ran the cars at about 95% of their ability and made no attempt at Banzai fastest laps which inevitably lead to large accidents. The aim was consistent fast laps without being silly.
For this round we ran each car on both lanes for 15 laps, I drove on red lane and Tel on yellow. The two times were then added together for the final score. There were no real problems with any of the cars, one stopped running after a couple of laps but that just needed the braids tweaking a bit and the heat restarted. There were a small number of minor off track excursions (5 in total) but none of them affected the overall results.
The event largely ran to previous form with no real surprises so the results are as follows:
Event 1 Kinrara Trophy
ModSports Corvette well ahead of the chasing pack. Road Runners 250GTO had a good run to 2nd and just pipped Brumos Porsche to 3rd place. The Porsche was delightfully smooth but we felt it was a bit lacking in the brakes department.
Event 2 Gerry Marshall Touring
Unfortunately the computer threw a wobbly during this round and failed to save the results properly. Not a major problem as I recorded them manually as well but without the final decimal places for the race time so the figures are rounded to the nearest full second. The results were clear cut though so are not affected by the lack of some digits.
Le Manx XJS romped away with this one with BatManx Camaro not too far behind. Bangers Racing's Rover SD1 was a surprise 3rd place, not the fastest in a straight line but it handled the twisty bits really well. ALS Camaro had a real nightmare, it totally lost grip after a couple of laps on both lanes for no apparent reason and slithered its way to 5th place.

Event 3 Whitsun Trophy
Again largely to form, the first 3 cars were in a league of their own with sub 5 second laps for all of them in both lanes. Road Runners Ferrari 330 took the honours but Le Manx GT40 and ModSports Ford MKIV were not far behind in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
I don't think I have made any cock ups with the results but please let me know if you spot any errors. That concludes the votes of the Norfolk jury, it just remains to pack these lovely cars up ready for their journey to the next host.
