So at last we saw 3 Jaguars on the Podium, very pleased to see RoadRunners in line version just ahead of the 2 sidewinders
You won't believe how much work it was to get a sidewinder in a plastic pod and chassis (brass & wire is much easier), a spur gear and a pair of 8mm tyres inside 54mm....the spur gear hub was cut back to halfway through the grub screw hole so the only way to get the gear to stay on the axle was solder it on! An idea I hadn't tried until this car, tin the axle where the gear will sit, slide the spur gear up to the solder, reheat solder and slide the spur gear on whilst the solder is molten...it's never coming off and I actually like it
...so did Andy who now does the same thing
I've built many cars and for Slot Rally, the narrower cars definitely go better with an inline big motor but built this particular car as a design exercise purely for the heck of it, it's the first time I've built such a narrow sidewinder.
If I were to start the Jag again it would be inline with a boxer motor which would leave ample room for full width tyres instead of having to cut them undersize like I had to.
Life is like a box of Slot cars...
