Micro Scalextric Street Stock eliminators
Twelve cars gave us a ladder that was rather bottom-heavy - the second to fifth qualifiers would battle it out to meet Jeremy (or whoever could beat him) in the final.
The traditional bout between first and last started us off...
Jeremy's Smokey Joe Veyron had a mixed-bag of qualifying runs, but the quickest was enough to be Top Qualifier. This race against Pete's Audi R8 was horribly stop-start... a burst of power coming too late to salvage anything at all. Pete won by 0.046 seconds with an ET of 0.758. Jeremy's 0.806 was on a par with his first two qualifying runs. Ouch.
That really chucked the cat amongst the pigeons - Jerome and Sue now had a great chance to make it to the final...
Sue got by far the better start, but Jerome's orange Veyron came back strong... A close 0.036 second margin at the finish, but it was Jerome who took the spoils and becomes odds-on for that final spot. His ET of 0.699 compared to Sue's 0.748.
In the bottom part of the ladder, second qualifier Jane faced Andy's Alfa...
It was another woeful run... thankfully not for Jane. Her rapid 0.613 seconds gave a 0.243 winning margin - the Alfa even slower than Jeremy at 0.854.
Rebecca beat Mary by 0.047 seconds to get through to Round 2. Their ETs were 0.687 and 0.718.
Next, Kev overcame Ken by a comfortable 0.152 seconds. Kev's ET of 0.610 was the quickest of the eliminators so far - Ken's 0.754 certainly not the slowest.
Finally for Round 1, Bill's little DB5 beat Iain's stuttering Porsche by 0.167 seconds. Their ETs were 0.633 and 0.793.
Round Two
That orange Veyron didn't get the best of starts again... Pete's Audi had a fabulous run to clock 0.703 seconds. Jerome clocked 0.700. But with a holeshot, Pete crossed the line 0.011 seconds ahead! Oh yes - that means the last-place qualifier is going to the Street Stock final.
Predictably, Jane beat Rebecca to book her place in the semis. A 0.616 run gave Jane a winning margin of 0.047 over the Porsche, which clocked 0.690.
The last Round 2 race was close. Kev got it 100% right with a 0.612 second run - enough for a 0.026 win over Bill's Aston. Bill's 0.633 matched his Round 1 ET.
Who would meet Pete in the final - Jane or Kev?
