Then my tyres went off and I KNOW in past years, my tyres were always cleaned by a friend between heats, was not allowed this year with the statemnet being it has never been allowed. 

You have absolutely never been allowed to clean your tyres between heats in the twenty years that the meeting has run. One of the reasons the Germans stopped coming.
Seems like a daft idea but it's the same for everyone, once the heat starts you can stop, lean over the track, pick your car up and clean the tyres, lean back over the track and replace your car. Seems to me that if anything is going to cause a crash then this will!
