Stage 3 at Myst, Weobley, Herefordshire
First up an FYI about my method of running cars in a proxy event.
Whitehill Park fills the room it's in, so marshalling an 'off' on the far side of the track involves a long walk around the end of the circuit and back again. This takes about eight seconds. As the lap time is only five to seven seconds any off becomes a run-busting major problem. On the other hand, pootering round at a snail's pace to prevent any offs at all misses the point of racing. So what to do?
My solution is to drive 15 laps but only count ten fastest. That way I can get in a few 'banker' laps for each car first to learn how it handles, then progressively push it to explore its limits, without ruining anyone's day by racking up huge time losses spent marshalling — the laps with offs simply don't appear in the final time.
Throttle used today is an MBSlot 35ohm resistor controller with a homemade brake box. Brakes were set to around 60% for most of the cars.
Timing is by a home-made Arduino timer based on the Slingshot X device developed on Slot Forum. I also have the Slot.it 'speak your weight' Live Timing box for spoken laps times to an ear-piece.This is invaluable for giving feedback about how much to push each car.
