Targa Florio Road Race Proxy - Results

It's that long ago I don't remember voting for the spirit award...

Would it be better to return the broken cars to their owners for repairs and put the proxy on hold for a few weeks?

The damage looks repairable, not a quick fix in some cases and if some of those entrants are from outside the UK I'm sure some kind soul on the mainland would be willing to do suitable repairs...or send to me with my damaged Jag

...that is if those affected would rather continue so the awards can be given on merit

The Allard Groundhogs car was voted for the Spirit of the Award almost unanimously by the previous 8 hosts (7-1).

2 cars are effectively write offs ( ALS Alfa Romeo GTA) and (Brumos De Tomaso) as there were crushed and the Pillar struts holding the roofs broken. So they would need rebuilding with new bodies, even if the entrants wanted to continue.

Also allowing all the entrants to rebuild their cars will of course change the performance of them, and you end up with effectively a new race.

Graham, if you count the number of turn to remove the body, I can send another that’s ready to go assuming no more damage to the car.  We will know once you open it up of course.  That body will be hard to replace at a far price.   I will search for a few if you need a monetary value applied.  No worries again as I know this was not your fault. Also if that’s a MRRC Chaparral, I have one that I can ship to Graham for use to start a rebuild or for parts as. I will not be building a chassis to go under it.

Tony, the problem is that even though most of the cars visually look ok to run, they were all, subjected to being crushed. There is no doubt about that. Kevan’s Jaguar was in box 1, ALS Alfa in box 2, Makem Chaparral in Box 3, your Pantera in Box 5. And also the body post has been detached on Bangers Racing Porsche 911 in box 4. So unless all the cars are checked out by the owners we are likely to get results in the following rounds which have more than likely been affected in some way by this incident.

My only option really is to call this series off, and relook at how the cars could have been better protected for the next proxy. Obviously choice of courier will be a major factor, with the cost implications associated. So there is quite a bit to do before sending any more cars off for another proxy round.

Personally speaking, this type of classic Road race series is one of my favourites. So I would hope to run another in future.

So the Targa Florio Road Race Proxy has sadly Officially Ended due to "Force Majeure circumstances "
And the cars will be returned to their owners starting next week.

The final positions at the point of suspending the proxy is

Technically there can be no race winners as the full course was not run, but some class leaders can take comfort from the fact that they were probably too far ahead to be surpassed in the remaining 4 rounds.

I will make the George Turner slot car kit award to the Groundhogs Allard as clearly this model would have been the almost unanimous choice of preferance if the series had been completed, even in the unlikely even that the remaining 4 hosts voted against it.

I will need to explain the situation to PSR regading any vouchers, but in my opinion these should go to the entrants whose cars had sustained terminal damage.

As this type of Road race proxy is my personal favourite type of theme, I will intend to have a re-run in the forseeable future most likely during 2027.

Are those final positions after penalties applied for over width tyres etc?

Yay!

I have 5-scratch built Targa Florio cars. Unfortunatley I can't afford to participate.

But, I watch and support the race from the wings here in Canada, and think the cars are simply wonderful!

I would offer to drive the cars around if I were there. I'm retired now anyways.

It would be a tragedy to see this proxy end.

No, the penalties points would have been applied after the final round, Jason had set up a mechansim on the scoreboard for this eventuallity for me.
But as it is, there is no final results to apply the penalties to.
So the table is just a fact of the points allocated when the race was abandoned.

Ken,
hopefully you will be able to enjoy following the series all over again in 2027, but I am delighted that you are a Road Race fan like me.
