Targa Florio Road Race proxy - Car Presentations
#21

I received RS Slot Racing cars last week. A first time entry to one of my proxy events, so a warm welcome to Colin.

Classic Group
Aston Martin DB2 (Class A)
Colin as provided some details of the car which raced in the TF in 1950.
Drivers Lance Maclin & John Gordon.
DNF -accident (hopefully it will finish with our slot car version)

Body Oscar Resin Kit with scratch-build interior, Immense Minitures drivers.
Chassis PCS extended with Plasticard.
Motor Slot it V12 & pinion & Gears
Ortmann Tyres.

Initial impression - Superb looking car ! Makes the full circuit on the Hillclimb track, it is quite heavy which can add to the downward momentum during the decent, and the brakes not to clever, so it will be a gentle run around this part of the track.

Prototypes & GT's
Ferrari 512S (Class E)
Drivers Herbert Muller & Mike Parkes
Made the actual TF race in 1970, finished 6th one lap behind the winning Porsche 908/03 of JoSiffert & Brian Redman.
Body & Chassis Fly with lightweight Interior
Motor Slot it V12 (older version) pinion & gears
Tyres PCS

Initial Impression - yes you can race this one both up and down the hill with confidence. Feels a little light on the front but appeared OK when run at speed.

My own entries, eventually decided on building replicas of actual TF livery cars if possible.

Classic Group
Mercedes Benz 300SL (Class B)
Carrera body
Chassis National Racers 3d
Motor Slot it Flat 6S
Rear tyres PCS

Initial impression - runs quite fast but a little light on the front, drive with care on decent on Hillclimb

Gran Turismo Group
Alfa Romeo GTA (Class D)
Revoslot kit - authentic  Targa Florio Livery
All standard parts.

Managed to get the livery from LeMans Decals, so decided to build this instead of running the Kadett.

Initial Impression is that it is very suited to my Rally tracks and very stable, probably a bit underpowered on the Tarmac Stages but we will see.

Prototypes & GT

Ferrari 412P (Class F)
Policar body kit decorated to authentic Targa Florio Livery
Predator Motor 22.5k rpm
BRM  tyres
Basically the same chassis and running gear which was on the Ferrari 330 Spyder in the Goodwood Revival proxy.

Initial impression is that it is working better on the hill climb than I would have imagined, very fast, only issue may be to remember to slow down for the Hump Back bridge.

I am still working on the Aston Martin DBR1, having a few issues with it at the moment.

In the end I abondoned the Aston Martin DBR1 due to it being "too fast"  Rofl
The model was based on a Betta classic body which is embarrisingly oversize, so my conscience got the better of me when it run my Hillclimb track in a record time for a Classic scale car.

I have replaced it with the Carrera Stirling Moss Merc 300SL which is not nearly as fast but I feel better about it

Scale width of a DBR1 should be 51mm.
I was under the impression that Betta fibreglass bodies were pretty good scale-wise.

My version is 58mm wide, it is actually almost as wide as my Policar Ferrari 412.

I think the Betta Classic fibre bodies vary a lot.
