Event 2 - Rally B Cars

Here's your action shots from this group...

First through the stage was Courtney Sport's Porsche 924...

It was a very fast run - 13.18 seconds and no deslots.

Groundhogs' Audi Quattro went well on the ice, clocking 14.55 seconds (0 deslots) to make up for Friday's Ninco off-road nightmare.

Unfortunately, it was another below-par performance from the Brumos RSR BMW M1. Struggling badly on the tight switch-back, the car crabbed to right - tending to spin out on the left-hander and/or stalling in the right-hander. After getting a rhythm of sorts, the M1 recorded a time of 17.02 seconds with one spin-out, but no deslots.

The Bangers Racing Metro 6R4 was equally delightful on the ice as it had been on Friday's Ninco stage. A time of 13.31 seconds (0 deslots) would surely be enough for combined Event 2 honours?

The Pantera is a beautiful car and the Green Star De Tomaso was super-smooth through the stage, setting a time of 13.58 seconds with no deslots.

It was no surprise that Harrison Racers' Lancia 037 was the star of this stage - low, short-ish wheelbase and utilising the punchy NC-9 motor, the 037 Rally is perfect match for this tight, twisty layout. Its tyres seemed better suited to this surface too. An awesome 12.38 second time (0 deslots) was quickest of the morning by a country mile!

From a petite Italian beauty to a German monster... The Novissime Iterum Quattro was an enjoyable drive, clocking 14.95 seconds (0 deslots) - not bad for a big beast on such a twisty track.

Disappointing on Friday's stage, the Woodcote Racing Porsche 911SC redeemed itself on the ice - a fast 13.18 seconds (0 deslots) equalling the time of Courtney Sport's 924.

Mountain View's Scalextric Delta S4 was a little tippy on this track. Entertaining the crowd with some three-wheeled corning, the Lancia set a time of 14.08 seconds (0 deslots).

The most nimble of the Quattros so far, Ruscillo Racing's Teamslot A1 stopped the clock at 13.41 seconds (0 deslots) - an impressive time for a Teutonic tank on this layout.

Another big car, Savage GT's BMW M1 was sensational on the ice. Punchy, supremely stable and surprisingly nimble - a time of 13.21 seconds (0 deslots) wasn't bad at all.

Lifeboats Racing's Audi Quattro was one of the stars of Friday's action. No need for the drop arm this time, the big car wobbled it's way nicely through the tight course to record a time of 14.55 seconds (0 deslots). Hopefully enough for a combined podium, but that second place might well have gone Savage GT's way.

The final car of this group was Team Cube's Scalextric Ferrari 308 GTB. A smooth run and a time of 14.21 seconds placed the Group 4 Ferrari ninth out of the 13 cars in this group...

1. Harrisons Racers - Lancia 037 - 12.38 seconds (all cars 0 deslots)
2. Courtney Sport - Porsche 924 - 13.18 seconds
= Woodcote Racing - Porsche 911SC - 13.18 seconds
4. Savage GT - BMW M1 - 13.21 seconds
5. Bangers Racing - Metro 6R4 - 13.31 seconds
6. Ruscillo Racing - Audi Quattro A1 - 13.41 seconds
7. Green Star - De Tomaso Pantera - 13.58 seconds
8. Mountain View - Lancia Delta S4 - 14.08 seconds
9. Team Cube - Ferrari 308 GTB - 14.21 seconds
10. Lifeboats Racing - Audi Quattro A2 - 14.55 seconds
=  Groundhogs - Audi Quattro A2 - 14.55 seconds
12. Novissime Iterum - Audi Quattro A2 - 14.95 seconds
13. Brumos RSR - BMW M1 - 17.02 seconds

The combined times did give a slightly different podium for the Event 2 result...

1. Bangers Racing - Metro 6R4 - 81.32 seconds
2. Savage GT - BMW M1 - 83.90 seconds
3. Lifeboats Racing - Audi Quattro A2 - 84.71 seconds
4. Green Star - De Tomaso Pantera - 84.78 seconds
5. Ruscillo Racing - Audi Quattro A1 - 89.94 seconds
6. Harrisons Racing - Lancia 037 - 92.64 seconds
7. Courtney Sport - Porsche 924 - 94.38 seconds
8. Mountain View - Lancia Delta S4 - 101.92 seconds
9. Woodcote Racing - Porsche 911SC - 102.54 seconds
10. Novissime Iterum - Audi Quattro A2 - 107.42 seconds
11. Team Cube - Ferrari 308 GTB - 111.19 seconds
12. Brumos RSR - BMW M1 - 113.37 seconds
13. Groundhogs - Audi Quattro A2 - 143.65 seconds

Extremely tight in and around those podium places - the top four had a sensational weekend, plus Harrisons Racers' Lancia the absolute star of the show this morning. Again, a big thank you to all entrants in this class for sending cars for me to run this weekend!

Event 1 - Monte Carlo

The last of the groups and the final action from Brighton...

First on the stage was Green Star's Austin Healey 3000. Lots of fun again today and a decent time for this group of 15.25 seconds (0 deslots)

ManxAndy's Jaguar XK120 was a pleasure to drive - as comfortable and quick on the twisty ice rink as it was on the rough Ninco stage on Friday. The clock stopped with a superb time of 13.88 seconds (0 deslots).

The Cortina was a nice smooth drive, coping well with the tight corners. Lifeboats Racing's Ford ended its run with 15.28 seconds on the timing screen (0 deslots).

RoadRunners' Jag was back on form on the ice. It clocked a 14.48 second run with no deslots.

The Landcrab was a little bit of handful! All that weight on the roof didn't help round the twisty bits, but after getting the measure of the car & track, a 16.35 second run (0 deslots) wasn't 'arf bad for Novissime Iterum's Austin.

The oldest car in the race, Groundhogs' Alfa Romeo pre-war Gran Tourismo was a superb drive round the twists and turns of the ice rink. Quick and surprisingly nimble, its time of 14.01 seconds (0 deslots) was one of the highlights of the morning.

The final car to run was ManxKev's XK120. Great fun, with some crowd-pleasing tail-out action, the blue Jag finished with a time of 15.62 seconds - only enough for sixth on the stage, but hopefully enough for a Round 2 podium...

1. ManxAndy - Jaguar XK120 - 13.88 seconds (all cars 0 deslots)
2. Groundhogs - Alfa Romeo Gran Turismo - 14.01 seconds
3. RoadRunners - Jaguar XK120 - 14.48 seconds
4. Green Star - Austin Healey 3000 - 15.25 seconds
5. Lifeboats Racing - Ford Cortina - 15.28 seconds
6. ManxKev - Jaguar XK120 - 15.62 seconds
7. Novissime Iterum - Austin Landcrab - 16.35 seconds

And the combined times for the Round 2 result gives us this podium...

1. ManxAndy - Jaguar XK120 - 83.24 seconds
2. Green Star - Austin Healey 3000 - 87.00 seconds
3. ManxKev - Jaguar XK120 - 93.95 seconds
4. Lifeboats Racing - Ford Cortina - 95.53 seconds
5. RoadRunners - Jaguar XK120 - 106.08 seconds
6. Novissime Iterum - Austin Landcrab - 107.67 seconds (not last this time...)
7. Groundhogs - Alfa Romeo Gran Turismo - 123.71 seconds

Some lovely classic cars there - definitely worth the time to photograph each and every one of them in action on this quick-fire stage. Awesome to see Groundhogs Alfa in second place today - but it was ManxAndy's Jag that walked away with this Round... Green Star's Healey a gallant runner-up. Gratius tibi to all the entrants in the Monte Carlo event for sending their cars for me to race - they were great fun!

And that's it for the action in Brighton - I really enjoyed it! Thanks again to all the entrants, the hosts, to Graham for organising and to Mike his social media work.

Just for interest -  across all four Events, the top ten combined times for the Brighton round look like this...

1. Woodcote Racing - Subaru Impreza - 78.20 seconds
2. Scott Sport - Renault Clio - 80.96 seconds
3. Bangers Racing - Metro 6R4 - 81.32 seconds
4. Brumos RSR - Porsche 914/6 - 81.81 seconds
5. RoadRunners - Fiat 131 Abarth - 81.83 seconds
6. Ruscillo Racing - Citroën C4 - 82.66 seconds
7. Team Alaric - Subaru Impreza - 83.08 seconds
8. ManxAndy - Jaguar XK120 - 83.24 seconds
9. SSRC - Ford Focus WRC - 83.48 seconds
10. Savage GT - BMW M1 - 83.90 seconds

That's pretty close! Just 5.7 seconds cover the lot - and an astounding 2.94 seconds separating second from tenth.

The cars will be on their way to Eastbourne this afternoon, ready for Round 3... and the challenges of Scalextric Classic track!
