UK HO Drag Proxy Spring Speed Nationals - March 2022

Super Stock 6.0 Semi & Final

Nico vs Iain for a place in the final...

There was absolutely nothing in this - side-by-side all the way. The data shows Nico nicked it at the end - a fraction faster through the line. The win margin was 0.003 seconds and the ETs 0.443 and 0.445. Nico will meet Rebecca in the final...

Could Nico end Rebecca's unbroken Super Stock winning run - a run that began in November 2020? This is what happened...

Close to begin with, Rebecca pulled out a small lead...

...and then Nico fought back...

Who'd won? It looked like a dead-heat on the line...

Rebecca had snatched the winner's medal away from Nico by just 0.002 seconds...

Here's the ladder...

And the data from the elimination rounds...

So, who will stick with their fast Micro S/S cars for June - and who's going to experiment with other chassis? Rebecca won't be changing, that's for sure!

Third rounds of the match racing will follow soon - and Street Stock will conclude the event this evening...

Hopefully some better fortune in the match races...

IFA Match Racing - Round 3

It is unusual to have all the matches go to a decider, but here we are...

A coin toss (a 1990 US Quarter, if you're wondering...) decides the lane choice for the third run - heads for 'Left', tails for 'Right'. Bill called heads, put together a good run to win by 0.221 seconds and wrap up his match against Kev 2-to-1. The 'Cuda seemed to tighten up during this run and managed only 1.036. Bill's 'Vette was on the pace at 0.821.

Bill called tails for his decider against Nico, putting the turquoise Vega in the same lane it'd had it's big accident yesterday. Nico showed no nerves and won by 0.163 - the ETs 0.646 and 0.794. That was Bill's fastest run. However, Nico won the match 2-1.

Nico called heads - and he was back in his nightmare lane... no problems though. A leisurely 0.663 was more than enough to beat an ailing 'Cuda by 0.360. Kev's ET was 1.010. Nico won a second match 2-1.

A big thanks to Bill, Kev and Nico for sending in their great Independent Front Axle cars. I would like to see this as our match-race class for the pancake and Nostalgia events in future. Stock Pancake rules - the option of third-party bodies (there are some available for T-Jets that I know of), but keeping that IFA vibe.

Usually, I will run similarly-paced pairs, but this did work quite nicely with just three cars... I'm also looking to resurrect a 'prize-money' leaderboard for match racing that I devised back in 2020. No money, of course - but it's an authentic 60s/70s way of scoring this fun competition.

And if you've got ideas of an inline match-racing class that isn't too obscure or too fast for the short strip, suggest it here on the thread. Just so you know, the leaves and button pick-ups of a Tyco-Pro do work okay on the Micro track...

A huge thanks to Bill and Kev for these matchraces! I'd love to keep this class as well, as there are still loads of bodys around and chassis as well!!! Pancake stock rules are perfect.
Anyone in need for a body in this class drop me a line!!

Yes happy and glad for this result! Checkeredflag Sun

Congrats to all the entries, and all the winners!

Nico. That's great that your car was fixed so it could re-enter the race!

Micro Scalextric Street Stock Eliminators

Okay, we're on to the big event - a full 16-car ladder for our most popular class. Jane's Nissan has won a lot of races (Jeremy can count up / weigh the medals and tell us how many...), but can she add the 2022 Spring Speed Nationals title?

Here's a reminder of the qualifying results from Saturday morning...

That means Jane lines up against Freddie in Round 1...

A straightforward win by 0.295 seconds, although I reckon Team Burley can definitely get more speed out of Freddie's car before next time. The ETs were 0.631 and 0.870.

Talking of Team Burley, Sue and Jerome were next - eighth vs ninth qualifiers. Sue seemed to have it won, but Jerome cruised through at the end with a 0.026 second margin on the line. Their ETs were 0.711 and 0.757.

Rebecca gave Nico a bit of a fright! What should have been a comfortable win was only a 0.030 margin - the Boxster clocking its best time of the weekend at 0.676 against Nico's 0.649.

No problems for Bill - his DB5 gave Andy's Alfa a good thrashing to win by 0.174. The ETs were 0.671 and 0.830.

What would Smokey Joe bring to the show today? A great start, followed by a rapid deceleration before the line. Thankfully Pete was slow - and had a very poor start - so Jeremy won by 0.096 seconds. Hopefully it was a one-off. Their ETs were 0.702 and 0.768.

Clive should remember - no cat treats, no favours. However, his Audi was too strong for Rose's stolen SPD patrol car - the winning margin 0.069 seconds and ETs 0.638 and 0.713. Rose is now free to terrorise the neighbourhood.

A long way down the ladder, Kev banged in a 0.623 run. Talk about making a statement! Anna managed a 0.731, but the margin was huge 0.140 seconds.

Finally for Round 1, Iain's Porsche beat Mary's Audi by 0.069 seconds - their ETs 0.670 and 0.730.

Street Stock Round Two

Jane responded to Kev with a 0.631 run. Jerome could do nothing about it - his 0.693 pass and a poor start giving a winning margin of 0.093.

Nico got a great start against Bill, but then got passed just before the line. The margin was another one for Nico to add to his list of 'what could have beens' - 0.004 seconds! Their ETs were 0.633 and 0.643. Bill would face Jane in the first of the two semis.

Smokey Joe was on fire in this one - but only in a metaphorical sense... However, Clive crossed the line 0.015 ahead as the Veyron seemed to dip in power again just before the finish. Jeremy's ET was 0.661 and Clive's 0.638. The second-placed qualifier is out, leaving Kev and Iain the top seeds on the bottom half of the ladder...

The final Round 2 race saw Kev fairly comfortably beat Iain by 0.043. However, Kev's ET - 0.617 - was noted by the fans and by Jane's team. Iain's ET of 0.655 was not at all shoddy.

More in short while, but here are the Rounds 1 & 2 stats...

Semis and Final next...

Semi finals

Bill by 0.010 seconds! That was a shock, but Bill's DB5 is quick. His ET was 0.623 and Jane's 0.626. The #5 qualifier is through to the final.

A comfortable one for Kev - 0.041 seconds. Their ETs 0.619 and 0.656. I reckon the adrenaline is flowing in the OXO Cube garage...

Street Stock Final

Bill lines up against Kev - the latter aiming for his first winner's medal...

This is what happened...

Definitely close... looked side-by-side, but maybe Bill had it...

... until the line...

And that's what the scoreboards said...

Massive congrats to Kev on a 0.006 second win!

Here's the ladder...

And the last stats from the semis and final...

And that's it! A big thanks to everyone who took part - a very wide spread of winners and some brilliant racing.

I'll post a wrap-up tomorrow, but here's a shot of all our winners in victory lane...

Great fun, thanks Woodcote!

As prompted, I did do a medal count for Jane's Street Stock Razzle Dazzle car, which obviously tempted fate!

I love puttering with gears
