Brighton to John O'Groats Road Race -Proxy Event 2021 REPORT

This is my first ever proxy and I'm enjoying it immensely but there is one frustration... I miss being able to tinker between races, I know what I need to do in order to improve but I cant get my hands on the cars AARGH!!!!

Seriously my thanks go out to all the organisers and hosts, you've all done an amazing job.

My second proxy.
Even in 24 hour endurance, racing the option is always there to pit the car and work on it.
Proxies are a different kind of stress, like sitting in stationary motorway traffic, drumming on the steering  wheel and needing the toilet.

However, lessons are learned and so far so good.

Wavegreen Good Morning, the cars have arrived at Merchiston Motors ready for remaining 2 stages of the Road Race up to John O'Groats.

But before they reach the finishing post there could be something lurking in the waters around the "Great Glen", or even perhaps a slip up on the "Rest And Be Thankful" sound a little too easy that one.

Mid -week Review
Anyway just to reflect where we are, stages 9 &10 gave us some great excitement and nail biting moments, I won't use Nonfractals analogy, but there could be some truth in that.

The Goldrock stage was a combination of fast straights and snake like bends.
Class A) The home team's Ford GT taking the advantage but tying with last weeks winners Mountain View Racing Honda Civic, but with Team Demon's ASV in very close pursuit. Roadrunners Mclaren and Kessel run's Lambo making up the first 5 cars, any of which could be the winners of this closely fault Class.
Class B) Another slip up by the Team Demon's Merc gave the initiative back to Yellow Devils Opel Calibra, with again Green Stars De Tomaso also getting it's best result so far in class C (can't help thinking there was some guiding hand watching over that one). And Woodland Cornwall's Corvette C6R finishing in a respectable 3rd position (even if they have no wheel inserts fitted)
Class C) what can you say about this, OK the fight at the top between the 2 GT40's was predictable, but out of the "blue" that much loved Triumph TR4 of the Green Star Racing out performed all the other similar type cars to get 5th position, was it that with the hood discarded the team braved the weather in order to get some weight advantage, or was it that "helping hand", I guess we will never know.

And finally we had on the Sunday the Ironing board Stage, sorry the Pendle Crossing.
Class A) Gave the Roadrunners another 1st position, and also worked in  favour for Kessels Lambo, and of course Team Demons ASV in close pursuit.
Class B) saw the Merc of Team Demon back on form, with a close but decisive win over Yellow Devils Calibra. And again the (insertless ) Corvette CR6 of Woodland Cornwall making into 3rd.
Class C) Team Demon's GT40 this time comfortable ahead Yellow Devils, but with the Porsche  914/6 of Woodland Cornwall piling the pressure on, and the Porsche 911 Carrera of Bangers racing another 3rd place, and further down the running it was another splendid run for the Triumph TR4 of Green Star Racing.

So here we are with only 2 more stages left, but its not all over yet.

Class A) Team Demon looks to have the advantage with the ASV, but they do have a doggy back tyre and Kessel run's Lambo is not finished yet, in fact any of the top 3 in this class could still win next weekend.
Class B) The gap is closing and where it looked easy for Team Demon's green Merc earlier in the competition, they now have the Yellow Devils Calibra very close indeed, in fact you could say that Team Demon has the Devil in its rear view mirror   Rofl Perhaps the other runners up looking to squabble over 3rd place.
Class C ) This had been more closely contended between the 2 leading GT40's earlier, but now perhaps Team Demon's GT40 has this one in the bag, and the Bangers Racing comfortable in 3rd (I think).

I hope your all enjoying this, now there was something else I wanted to say today, what was it....................

Rest and Be Thankful configuration - it is on two levels, hopefully this 3D view conveys the right impression.  It is currently under updating work to Policar track, being at the 25% Policar, 75%  Ninco phase.
There are "Rally Loops" at each end so this is effectively a single lane round and back.

The Great Glen is Carrera Evolution, mostly painted over with blackboard paint.
There is a single crossover section so a "lap" comprises two tours, one on each lane.

Wavegreen The car snaps look really good, and the track layouts awesome, but I should tell our host that the Mini in his Photo is not withdrawn  Tappingfoot
the other one has  Rofl

But I just remembered what was missing from this mornings post  Tease

There we have it, a heap of Pendle Slot Racing vouchers available to the winners of the classes and runners up, the "George Turner Prize" This is a kit of the Triumph TR7, picked carefully so it could enter the competition (if there is one) next year and supplied by George Turner Models. Also there is two Amato Slot Car Design vouchers for the Concours runners up. So bet a few of you wished you had polished your cars up abit more now Bigsmile

And finally there is the Grand  "Brighton to John O'Groats" -Team Trophy to be (or has been) won, in addition a rather splendid cardboard box funded by the left over cash from your entry fees and abit of personal donation.........but is there anything inside ? you will have to wait until we have announced the winner.
Then there is the engraved Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for the winners and runners up of the Classes, with the Tour de France ribbons, funded by Racing Replicas.

Anyway Big thankyou for our sponsors listed below
