Slot Car Racing

HO Proxy Drag Racing returns to the Rock County Raceway on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. With competitors sending cars from around the UK, North America and continental Europe, there should be some close races and lots of drama. You can follow the action at SlotRacer Online.

Avant Slot had exciting news for all slot rally fans this weekend. The first samples of the up-coming Subaru liveries were unveiled – and they look great. And then the announcement of a second Opel Manta – Chevy GMC van project with Resinas Maralic. The Subarus are due by the end of the summer and the Opel releases in October / November.

A new Slot.it model – the Maserati GranTurismo MC GT4 – will be available this week. Different from the previous GT3 Maserati, this first livery features the car 2018 Pirelli World Challenge winner Jeff Courtney. Policar’s budget race of saloon and rally cars takes another leap forward this week. The release of their Subaru WRX STI – in this very tasty 2014 Nürburgring 24 hour Presentation livery – will get a lot of slot car enthusiasts sitting up and taking note. By the look of that interior, there are some rally versions to come…

Motorsport News

Formula One legend Carlos Reutemann sadly passed away last week. Arguably one of the most gifted drivers of his generation, Reutemann narrowly missed being crowned world champion in 1981. David Tremayne’s tribute on the F1 website is here.

Santa Pod Raceway hosted its tenth Dragstalgia event over the weekend. Dragstalgia is a vintage lifestyle weekend dedicated to race cars, bikes and hot rods from a bygone era. All the action was streamed live on the Santa Pod TV YouTube Channel – which you can find here.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed 2021 finished on Sunday. Taking place in the grounds of Goodwood House, there was loads to see, including plenty of action on the 1.16-mile hillclimb that snakes up from the driveway. Highlights will be shown on ITV4 this week – and there are lots of FoS snippets on the Goodwood Road & Racing YouTube Channel here.

The new Ford Puma WRC rally car was officially unveiled at Goodwood. The next-generation hybrid-powered car will feature in the 2022 WRC season. There are pictures and video on the Goodwood website here.

Grass-roots club racing is the life-blood of motorsport. The British Racing & Sports Car Club returned to Anglesey for the first time in two years with a fabulous line-up of Super Karts, Formula Ford, two Fun Cup endurance races, a pair of MX5 classes and the Scalextric-sponsored Modified Ford Series.
