Wooden routed Scalextric Arc Pro, Jersey, UK
#1

Hello,

I've just built this track and connected it all using Scalextric Arc Pro, it's all coming together nicely and has been a few hours of work routing the slots, braiding, wiring etc. I used to have a wooden routed track back in the early 1990s as a teenager and I thought I'd do a modern version with all the tools and digital stuff which was either not around in the 90s or just too expensive. Many of the cars are 1960s vintage that are my father's from his childhood, they might not be the fastest but they just run better than modern cars on wooden tracks.

Can anyone make any suggestions on a small problem I'm experiencing? The track works in both analogue and digital modes but won't recognise the digital cars at the point of set-up just before a practice or race, the app says to place the car on lane 1 but the app doesn't ever recognise the car. I'm wondering if there is some specific height I've got to get the base unit to so that it's closer to the track surface as in when it's hooked up to the standard scalextric start / finish line. I've wired up the sensors on the underside of the track and I'm pretty sure they are good to go.

Nice work there Dave Thumbup

If you are running the iOS version of the ARC app on an Apple device, I think you have been caught out by a glitch in the latest update (discussed on the Scalextric forum here). I understand from the Scalextric team that the issue has been resolved and the app version should update in the next few days.

A fix for over the weekend might be to use the original "App Race Control (Legacy)" version, which is available on the App Store. This is the pre-2018 version of the app but will work fine as a stop-gap. I have the two apps on my iPhone and iPad - there is no problem having both installed on the same device.

The is how calibration should work with the latest app: slotracer.online/arc-pro-guide/classic

argh, you're right it was an app issue. I've got an old android tablet and that worked straight away, it never occurred to me that it might be software, after all the dismantling and butchery of scalextric bits it is ironic there was a software problem awaiting me!

So digital is no working and car calibration is good, the next problem is it isn't picking up the start finish sensors. Can anyone with a Pro set confirm that lane 1 is furthest from the controller block and that the sequence the car runs over is a pair of leds in the track, an optical sensor, then the controller block and finally a second optical sensor.

On a standard ARC Pro powerbase, the direction across the sensors is vital for lap counting. It will only work right to left. Perhaps try the cars in the opposite direction and see? In analogue mode it is only the optical sensors that function - again try in the opposite direction.

Another issue with the standard powerbase is setting up the race correctly in the app - what I call 'the Rule of Three Colours'. The controller, car to powerbase and car in the app must be the same colour for the app to count laps. I've explained it in more detail here: slotracer.online/arc-pro-guide/preparation

As for fitting the ARC Pro sensors in a wood track - it's not something I've done. I see you have cut the sensor boards to widen the lane spacing. It might be worth going back and double-checking your work.
