OverSpa - Revell Track
#1

never mind OverSpa - Oh dear ...more like it.

Seriously - been procrastinating too long so here goes.....

As I am a vintage fan - I wanted to use a vintage track. Revell's track had  3.5ins between lanes so can accommodate 1/24th with a leetle squeeze. Having worked with it, my one issue is how tricky it is to join and also disassemble. I have a lot of track with little pieces broken off that will require some filler once the track is complete and then some repainting. It also worked out a LOT cheaper than Carerra, which does have the advantage of 4ins between lanes, but as a result, takes up a lot more space.

Started with 3 revell sets purchased off Ebay- an Atlantica and 2 Europa sets, and then bought a whole box of extra track as it had a number of half straight tracks which are very hard to come by.

For testing this is what the track looked like:

After retrofitting a grid under the track I played around a bit and have come up with this change to the top end:

I have sourced some high density type foam - used for preventing heat loss in a ceiling, and intend to lay these firstly all across the board as sound deadening, and then to build up the back straight leading to the bridge. It will be worked to create rock face. My last woodland scenics rock mould is in the post.. Using the poly under the track also allows one to cut it so you create a small cutting/valley for water feature or underpass road for spectator access.

This is as far as I got this weekend ....to be continued

Revell track is a rare sight, so interesting to see this build.  Could you please show the end of a section so we can see how it interconnects.

Bout time you had a track. The Revell looks interesting, I don't think I've seen it before. A bit more light for the pics would be good!!

Cheeky ... it is the Garage after all and I only have a flash on my camera, and with all the rain we are getting it is not as if I can open the doors Rofl Rofl

So I have laid the first layer of the poly type base (actually no clue what its real name is) and tried to lift back straight to see what it looks like,..... not great pics, as insult to injury the autofocus on my lens has stopped working Tappingfoot

But here is a view of back straight...

Then as per Gordons request, this is a close up of the track joints!

Then my last rock mould arrived with postie today... which will be used to create rock face on the inside of the back straight

SO well and truly no excuses anymore

Wow, that is a precision interconnection arrangement.
Edit: Looking more closely it looks like the sections are one lane individually?

Thanks Anthony.

There is a groove in the centre - but it is dual joints. Trick is to slide one side in and then straighten it - but needs pressure and the track has become slightly brittle due to age, so there are quite a few broken small pieces, that once the track is finalised, I will use some putty to fill and then repaint the track.......

Ah! Thank you Anthony, there was me thinking that you had very carefully laid the pieces in that photo parallel to each other...
