I don't buy cars because other folk say they're competitive, I buy cars I like, if they disappoint on the track I do something about it.
I have one of those but it sits in the 'projects box'.
The SCX pod and brass bearings are a good basis, sleeve the front axle, add ballast, swap out the rear axle and wheels for SlotIt crown and alloys with racing rubber.
I'm not overly fond of the guide setup so that would get replaced with a Slotingplus guide in a suitable mount...and you're racing.

I just dug my 360GTC out, it's better than I remember as the front axle is already well secured in bearings.
The body/interior is heavy!...32g is the weight of a FK180 motor.
I think I'll put this right near the top of the to-do pile with a view to Slot Rally, a navigator, Rally plates, glued & trued all round with decent rear rubber, ballast in the appropriate places and finally damping tape across the bottom of the chassis and this should be a super competitive Standard 2WD class Rally car.

Currently...none but any SCX RX42B would be a good start.
