MSCC - 2021 Christmas Special
#1

Christmas Special - 30 December 2021

As 2021 draws to a close we had one final race night in true fun fashion.  A good natter and practice session before racing, favourite car for the night selected and off we went with 5 minute heats.

With club members either working or unable to attend due to covid restrictions etc. the five of us happened to choose different class cars from each other.

Mike & Geoff started proceedings with a pair of Group 5’s, there was very little to separate them as they circulated within hundredths of a second…the difference being those damned deslots…in the end Mike came out ahead with two deslots to Geoff’s four.

Heat #2 was Brian’s Mosler vs Mike’s Capri, it’s fair to say Brian started slowly and finished with a flourish tonight, Mike’s Capri finishing just under 2 seconds ahead.

Heat #3 was the only solo run, Brian getting in a good clean run (in fact one of three cleans, no marshall got to put fingerprints on the Mosler tonight)...and set him up for heat #4.

Heat #4 saw the return of Kev’s black (aren’t they all) Camaro and couldn’t keep up with the Mosler which set the fastest lane time overall tonight but the Camaro was pushed to set the best time in Red tonight.

Heat #5 & #6 were VERY close, Andy’s 917K vs Kev’s Camaro.
Heat #5 saw a couple of collisions, when one went off the other waited to carry on the close racing, the Porsche swinging it’s back end round at the top of the hill ended up getting pushed ¾ of the way down the hill by the front of the Camaro which ended up a couple of tenths ahead of the Porsche at the end.
Heat #6 was a clean race, both cars battling to the end, on the final lap the Camaro just edged ahead but didn’t have the power to stay ahead on the main straight as the two cars finished with the Porsche less than a tenth of a second ahead across the line.

Heat #7 was a surprise as Andy’s Gulf 917K crashed heavily at the end of the straight a couple of times handing the lead to Geoff’s Gulf Mustang.  The lead swapped a couple of times but ultimately the Mustang finished nearly a lap clear.

Heat #8 was a repeat of heat #1 with the two group 5’s next to each other, Geoff managing his best score in Yellow finished just over a lap ahead of Mike’s Capri in Red which managed it lowest score.

So all in all an eventful, fun and enjoyable evenings racing.

As a side note, Kev was trying out some new tyres, Scaleauto A-S25’s, they were untreated but seemed to offer great grip but do seem to ball up after 3 minutes if pushed really hard which isn’t a problem as races are usually 3 minutes but tonight were 5 minutes.  These would make great Slot Rally tyres and true fairly easily…unlike the NSR Black specials which offer similar grip but take AGES to true.

The chart is listed with best score at the top.

Next week is the first week of 2022 and we start the race calendar with a Club Revoslot double header.  Last year this was on the calendar as a handicap but ran as team races, this year I’ll use the scores managed by each driver with these cars to dish out grid spot penalties so the quicker guys start further back.

Life is like a box of Slot cars... Cool Drinkingcheers
