Not exactly a scratch build but...
#1

Hi
Thought I’d share my progress (now there’s actually been some) on my frankentruck build.

The idea was to have a cheap vehicle to act as a track cleaner (run it around before using the track with mx3 loaded braids) but when it arrived I didn’t like the livery so set about melting the old paint and livery off with nail varnish remover.

It started like this

With paint off like this

So far I’ve finally managed to get some time off from being a part time, full time dad and it now looks like this

Fully user coated and ready for the top coats of white for the cab and electric-ish blue for the rest. Engine section will hopefully have some components painted in black, red and chrome.

I ‘borrowed’ the can interior from an old scale mode I (no other word for it) stole from work a few years ago.

Holes on the can roof are for the quite nifty light bar I got from a supplier in the states.

Hopefully the next few days will see the top coats applied and build complete

Nice project.
I really like the idea of a track cleaning vehicle.

Nice project.  Thumbup
What did you use to make the windscreen ?
Is it just to apply the MX3, or are you going to have some form of dust removal too ?

Windscreen was from a scale model of one of my firms wagons that I borrowed.

Side windows are flat Perspex sheet.

Plan is to try and shape all the glass a bit better to fit more flush with the cab

I was initially going to try and put some brushes behind the front bumper but have struggled to find any I think will be suitable.
The option is still there should I find any though as they’d just sit in the void behind the bumper.

I’ll answer that question again Savage ?

The frankencleanertruck will now have some brushes mounted at the front, now I’ve found some brushes to suit.

Who knew that 3 x eyebrow brushes would find their way onto a slot car??

Nice work so far, I really like the light bar! Can you share where you sourced it?

Thanks

Light bar came from Banggood (link below)

Morning all

The Frankencleanertruck has been taken as far as my current skill base can cope with and, although in a fairly rough state, is now complete and ready to sweep the track and MX3 the rails

In typical Project Manager fashion a fairly substantial lessons learnt session has been held and going forward I’m going to practise painting some scrap pieces before embarking on another actual car respray cause I think my 8month old could’ve done better.

Also, I need to make sure that things have glued properly before gluing other things. Can roof lining is sagging a little and as the cockpit is glued in place, it’s staying like that (if it was a British 70’s truck it’d be a feature!!?)

Few pics of the finished truck for you-
