3DP body shell addiction

T70 Spyder modified in homage to Skip Hudson's car from the USRRC.
Qidi Xplus3 using PETG+, supports removed but still needed some clean up in this shot.

It is starting to feel like an addiction to a single model.
I had downloaded the basic file and then gone to work making it as a suitable slot car.  then played around to make it optimal on printing after lots of test prints.
I offered a few of the tests at the club for anyone wanting them and it kinda snow balled.

Now in progress of printing 26 bodies for the club members for a one make race.

Those files are all done in TinkerCAD.
With some assist from Meshmixer and 3D Builder whenever helpful.

Lister Jaguar

Was gifted an old Lister Jaguar resin shell shown below,

   

so cleaned up the surface, sprayed a coat of matt white or two and then 3D scanned.

   

The scan was tidied up using the scanner software, then Blender to edit certain areas i.e. wheel arches, then into CAD to rebuild certain features (grill aperture, exhausts etc) create headlamp apertures and hence headlamps, then to finish off a drivers head.

   


This is teamed with an inline boxer motor chassis ready for the local club Goodwood class for pre67 front engined cars.

   

Still some work to do (windscreen etc) but have been running it around my track to iron out the kinks.

Projects.

Work in progress on a Sunbeam Tiger and Bill Thomas Cheetah. Tiger uses a STL file sourced from the net, the Cheetah was a scan of a lumpy resin shell picked up recently at Cobham.

The Tiger shell has been modified to race car specification for the local club’s pre 67 Goodwood class. CAD used to address some core issues where the original file seems to have been a solid that has been hollowed out too thick /thin in places. Once that was out of the way then a redraw of the wings to fill in the original arches then cut new arches with flares, new parts include underpans front and back, a bonnet scoop, hard top and a driver/interior, lastly the rear sectioned to facilitate vertical printing, and supports added.

   

The Cheetah scan was a dog’s dinner and I didn’t realise how bad until after I had tidied up the resin shell, painted it and loaded the running gear so too late to redo. The scan took a lot of correction and swearing in Blender to fix to a usable file as the shell had a slight twist to it, and some oddball artifacts, ripples etc from the scan. This necessitated around 6 hours work in Blender to thicken, smooth out the ripples, remove mesh errors, and finally section in half and mirror to even up the shell. CAD work took another 4 hours to cut out bonnet apertures, arches, add an interior, chassis, fuel injection detail, petrol caps, bonnet louvres, air scoops on the rear pillars, and stretch the shell lengthwise as too short to scale.
