3D body mods
#1

Sometimes a part of a 3D body file is useful for a normal plastic bodyshell.

I have a Ninco Corvette C1 open top but need a roof for the next proxy I'd like this car to enter.

I deleted everything apart from the roof and hopefully it'll fit... it's currently draining on the printer.

It's the first thing I've resin printed for months...I don't miss the smell!!!

Stage 2:
  • Remove from printer
  • Clean in bio ethanol in a ultrasonic bath
  • Remove supports
  • Cure resin in UV box for 3 or 4 minutes
  • Grind off excess and clean-up

Stage 3 will be trimming the unwanted bits, make the glass and blend it into the contours of the Ninco body but it's looking more like it already.

Hi Kevan,

Dumb question. For my education, why use resin for this item?

Main reason
  • much better quality finish
Secondary less important reason
  • much less likely to break in a crash compared to the front or rear of the bodyshell
I haven't fitted this yet because I'm now thinking it would be a shame to modify such a nice original car.

Thank you Kevan.
I also came across another of your posts explaining the pros and cons.

Off to spray some cars on my new turntable, courtesy of this fabulous forum :-)

Hi Kevan for long time ive had an idea to make an rs200 body shell of my own spec. I have no clue how to 3D print so would have to pay for a build.it is a scalextric shell but with some changes & to a biger size;  more like scaleauto size plus larger ffont air intake wider arches NACA ducts at sides etc. It would be an RS200 evolution build & then also have custom chassis & if posss 3piece splitrim wheels. Would you be into  doing this for a good price of course or know anybody who might

No sorry, far too much time will be involved.  Even changing an existing file takes time so I don't do commissions any more.

It may be easier to do the mods the old fashioned way with plastic and filler and file/grind/sanding.
