I'm going to be casting some small parts. The resin I'm using is Smooth-Cast 327. However, I specifically want a silver/grey colour, which isn't available in Smooth-On's "So Strong" range of tints. Last year, I tried mixing a tiny amount of black into the white pigment, but it wasn't very successful.
I'm thinking outside the box, but has anyone ever attempted tinting resin with acrylic paint? I know the obvious solution is to air brush colour on to untinted resin, but these parts are small - Scalextric Escort mk1 bumpers, SCX Citroen C4 WRC mirrors, and a few wheel inserts.
Thoughts (or maybe even experiences) please gents.
Best regards,
Stuart.

I have had reasonable results using this stuff
Rub n Buff thoroughly mixed with one part of the resin before mixing. I also tried rubbing it into the mould before casting, not chrome like but works OK.
I also tried aluminium filler from Tiranti which looks more grey than silver.

Your resin supplier should have appropriate tints to suit the resin that you are using.

Unfortunately their range is limited. They don't offer either a silver or a grey. My next step is to try adding a tiny amount of black to a larger amount of white, in an attempt to get somewhere near to a shade I find acceptable.
I've tried, in the past, airbrushing my homemade inserts, but I can't get the paint to adhere - even after using plastic primer.
Best regards,
Stuart.

I have used a small amount of black tint in the past with success but dropped that when I saw the supplier offered a genuine grey.
The inserts in my previous picture are tinted and I have not had trouble with paint adherence when I do paint things.
Do you use a mould release agent?
