Slotting Car Proxy Club

The only way you'll get a 1/32 Stude Champion/Commander is 3D print one...or resin cast from the list Graham posted last week

weird there are lots of 1/43 , 1/24 , 1/25
or am i looking in the wrong places or using the wrong search criteria

I looked for a long time for plastic kits of the Sedans, but they seem to only exist in the larger scales.
George Turner does the Jaguar Mk7 which I have and is a very good moulding. I shall be making this as a 2nd Option for the Road Race.

I have generated a Draft list of cars for the Classic Road Race 25
I am in the process of categorising the cars in the Events as:

Carrera Pan Americana 1950 -1954 (Event 1)
a) Sports Cars which entered the CPA road race.
b) Sedans which entered the CPA road race.
c) Sports cars which entered other road races 1950-1959

Tour De France 1960-1976 (Event 2)
a) Sports Cars
b) Touring Cars

Targa Florio 1964- 1976 (Event 3)
Sports Prototype cars

I have attached a Draft Car list for comments and feedback

Studebaker Champion Panamericana

It's a running car, body and chassis are printed in Super PLA+, the last bodyshell I printed with a filament printer was also a Stude but squashed down and stretched sideways to 64mm and that was 4 years ago. This Stude isn't squashed or super stretched and looks much more like the 1:1 car it represents.

Filament printed bodyshells just don't have the sharp detail of a resin printed one but this should be very resilient and will look better with paint hiding all the defects.
I brushed UV resin over the bodyshell then rubbed it down again with fine wet & dry which is why it looks all scratched.

Chassis is super soft and flexible very much like a Thunderslot chassis which handle exceptionally well even on a wood track.

On my little Scaley Sport test track it drives really nicely and more than quick enough with the Predator motor (superb motor by the way guys).

I absolutely love the look of this beastie!

It's got 10mm tyres on at the moment so may need narrower ones for the final rule spec.
...it'll need an 18K motor too

Car number two is a resin cast Jaguar MkVII on a B&W chassis.

NSR Shark 22 motor, NSR Ultras on the back.  Chassis isn't as flexible as the plastic one on the Stude but goes round the track nicely.

...this'll need tyres/motor change too!

Classic Road Race - Spring 25
Draft Rule proposal
Has been revised

I have focused on the designated motor list, and decided that all the Events could work with the same motor list as I can see that this be best for the diverse range of models across the Events. However the motor list is quite precise and some motors have been left off intentionally based on experience regarding magnetic traction, which could be particularly advantageous for this proxy based on the tracks I am thinking of using for this Rally style proxy.

The rule framework still needs further details added to clarify some of the key points listed.

I am reviewing the role of the "penalty" based system, and thinking of a "return to owner to modify" approach rather than applying penalties which in general tends to depress me as it never seems to me to be a fair approach to any of the parties involved.

A few things I like...
  • minimum tyre diameter rather than 'tyre diameters within 1mm of each other'
  • free motor orientation
  • free choice of motor right across the motor list for all classes
...just need to find decent 8mm wide tyres for the Stude' which was raced last Thursday on 10mm tyres

yes I think that because of the diverse range of tracks I would like to see used for this proxy, it will make little difference as to what type or orientation the motor is.
On the otherhand there is likley to be more plastic than wood routed tracks, so motor magnetic traction advantage could be more prominent, and more careful consideration as to what motors remain listed. A few of the old favourites have been withdrawn due to being "out of step" with the majority of those allowed on the list (on my measuring device all the motors must now be under 2gm*cm magnetic force whereas previously it had been under 3gm*cm)

Motor magnetic traction shouldn't be any advantage but obviously is as we're seeing in the results of the current proxy.
