Obviously a track can be made, and yes a well made routed track is great. I'm a huge fan of routed tracks.
But plastic track is what draws people into the hobby, it's what most people started out with, it's what people buy as Christmas and birthday presents, and it's an easy way into the hobby.
I wouldn't even be in this hobby if I hadn't been given a Scalextric set as a youngster, and I'm sure that's a fairly common experience.

Making choices between two companies is obviously not so easy, most of our club members don't have plastic track, in fact it's probably the last thing any of them would put on a list of top 10 things most important for making a decision as to which is their favourite Slot car company.

Yes but most people in the hobby would have started out with a plastic track. A Scalextric, or Carrera set is a massively important gateway into the hobby.

I'm one of those who came into the hobby with no Slot car experience whatsoever, straight from nearly 40 years racing RC cars so see it from a different viewpoint.

Yes I know, but that's an unusual route, I'd say
I reckon that well over half of the people in the hobby started out with a plastic track, and might not have ever got into slot racing without it.
It's just my opinion, but I think it's massively important for the popularity of slot racing.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this World Cup of Slot - and the differing opinions are a fair reflection of the diverse ways we enjoy playing with toy cars.
However, I do think it has been more the ‘Slot Car European Championship’. A true World Cup would include the most popular slot car brands in North America - AFX and AutoWorld. In the history of slot, no manufacturer has sold more cars to more people than the Aurora/Tomy/Racemasters AFX dynasty.
But should HO slot cars be included? Or is it a completely different code to 1:32 and 1:24? Are we talking Rugby Union vs Rugby League - or even Association vs American Football?

The initial draw - we did it randomly from a big pot - has a large bearing on it too, That bottom right corner of the draw was tough, pitching SRC, Sideways, RevoSlot and Scaleauto against each other to get to the senis.

We made it 1/32 sine that is what we, certainly I , have experience of and an interst in.
If there's a group want to do a HO World Cup PM me and we'll talk about how to make it happen.

As a racer the choice is easy, looking at it with the racing goggles off it's a whole lot harder to choose.
Looking forward to the discussion.
