Magnets
#11

Ok, I haven’t got an SCX, I do have a pioneer on the way and I will want another, are SCX ok ? Compared to slot-it and Scalextric where would they sit ?

Scalextric, SCX and Carrera are similar mass market products and they all sit on the bottom rung of the performance ladder. Pioneer can be slightly better but not always. Slot.It are several steps up with NSR and Thunderslot etc on the top rung.

Standard car with magnets and NSR tyres...note the controller has tape round the trigger in the 'full chat' position whilst the 'driver' films from a distance

Where on earth did you get that nonsense from? There is quite clearly a driver in the lane socket the car is in.

Actually you're right, I thought it was the controller nearest the camera...but the truth is:

Quote:Trust me, the driver had nothing to do with it. I just mashed the throttle and let the magnet and tyres do the rest.

It doesn't really matter, it shows that mag racing is completely different, that car gets round miles quicker than other non-mag cars on that track and he's not doing it with extra skill when comparing two identical cars one with and one without mags.

It's totally different, it all depends what you want from your cars.  I have a mag car, yes it's fun for a couple of minutes but I get totally bored with it as I prefer my input into my cars on track performance, from setup to driving because I enjoy setting the cars up but there's no doubting some folk prefer to use mags for various reasons and that's their choice.

I am going to try a couple of cars with and without to compare, first up will be pioneer charger, the magnet looks like it will just `lever` out ? before i crack something could anyone confirm that is correct method,    sorry for all my stupid questions, i am learning all over again !     second test will be with my MR slotcar McLaren, when it arrives, im taking magnet straight out before i run it, so...same question regarding removal,  ta

Most magnets of any make will normally pop out quite easily with a bit of leverage but a few can be real pigs. Pioneer are not normally a problem, don't know about MR Slotcar.

Get a knife edge under one of those tabs and it'll lever out easy enough

The MRSlotcar magnets are held in by plastic tabs on the motor pod, similar to those on a slot-it pod. Use a flat blade screwdriver to push on one side of the magnet from the bottom of the pod, and they will pop right out.
