Removing factory decals/tampo
#1

I have a Fly Alfa Romeo GTV that I want to remove a few select livery details from. Is there a product or a method of removing the factory fit decals and keeping the paint beneath?

Most likely they aren't decals but are tampo printed on to the body. You could try rubbing one of the decals with some isopropyl alcohol or methylated spirits it may work. I have rubbed 'decals' off other brand cars using this method however I think Fly cars use tampo printing which means that to get the decal off you will likely remove the body colour as well.

I was wondering the same for AW HO scale cars, if they were decals or tampos. I know on Hot Wheels cars you can get the tampos off using nail polish remover and a Q tip, but 50% of the time some base coat paint goes with it.

Some nail polish removers have acetone as an ingredient. I wouldn't use that on a plastic body.

The safest way to remove tampo markings is to use some fine rubbing compound,........I have used Tamiya's "fine" compound to remove Tampo on several Fly cars.

Go slowly and lightly, and you will be able to remove the "decal" without harming the base colour.
