What's in the 2022 Scalextric Catalogue?
#21

Re. The Duffy Collard Escort Mk2 - the livery posted above is the one being produced.

As for the mysterious advent teaser… it remains a mystery - and a teaser.

Southern Models (Aussie Distributor who commissions the Aussie releases I believe) normally announces these - no idea when they plan to do it - but I am looking forward to some classic Aussie notchback Mustangs.....

Having just re read the excellent post  by Woodcote,  a couple of things that I had missed came to mind.....

1.  The Jaguar XJS.
No listing for a further model to be released this year.  Does that mean that after only 2 UK releases that is it?
The Police version appears to have sold well,  as all Police editions do.  And yes, the black Motul livery was the correct livery for a first  release.  But surely the British racing green TWR livery, that dominated the ETCC, would have sold way more!  This is, after all, the livery that this  car is absolutely remembered for.  Plus Hornby Scalextric have already done this colour scheme,  with a TWR Bathurst 1000km livery as an Australian Limited Edition.    Seems that a big opportunity has been missed here for sure.
Both Pendle slot and Weevils slot cars had the Australian Ltd Edition,  both now sold out.  I just expected Hornby Scalextric to give us the iconic livery, so didn't buy the Aussie version.   Plenty still available in Australia,  but with VAT, and the Royal Mail £8 surcharge for collecting this, it starts to get expensive.

2.  Ford Capri.
Again,  no more new liveries?   Perhaps the Capri doesn't sell as well as the Escort,  which has had so many liveries  both road, racing and rally, that it would quite happily make an entire collection on its own!   So many more possibilities to cover with this model, both UK and European racing series.

Given the expenses involved in the initial tooling, I'd be very surprised if that was that.  Hopefully they will be revisited next year?

Anyone else any thoughts?  Bigsmile

Some nice models there for sure.
At $49.95GBP that’s $93.00AUD. Trouble is I can buy a new release NSR for $115.00.
Only 20% more.

Oops. When was I supposed to take the poster down? Nobody told me!  Sun

I pushed back from my chair and took this pic today. I've had this poster for many years. It's never too late to be late!

There's also a black Countach in the row of cars with the door open. My very first 1/18th diecast.

Until NSR makes a Countach (I doubt that will happen). A Scalextric will work great. I may need to buy two in different colours to keep the competition fair.

Thanks to Andy for a fantastic product info/update!

I look forward to a couple of Lamborghini's.

Pip - on the Capri, XJ-S and other recent moulds. I understand the Scalextric team were working on more re-liveries than made it into the catalogue. When it became clear that so many 2021 cars would be carried over to this year, the decision was to prioritise the new tooling and put the re-liveries 'on hold'. I think there's a very good chance you'll see them in the future. The Capri and XJ-S have certainly sold very well so far - and there are still some nice racing, road car and TV/movie options to choose from.

Absolutely no idea what they have planned, but apart from the green and white TWR cars, I do like this JPS livery that Tom W drove to victory at the 1984 Macau race...

And one or other of these on the Capri...

What would you like to see?

As for Rick's NSR vs Scalextric price comparison... looking at the like-for-like UK RRP (Gaugemaster vs Scalextric websites)...

Mercedes AMG GT3: £84.95 vs £49.99 = 70% more
Williams FW11: £87.95 vs £53.99 = 63% more.

Not that anyone pays RRP - but comparing a 'best price' for one to RRP for the other is mildly disingenuous... Plus NSR and Scalextric are completely different beasts with very different purposes in life - aimed at distinctly different market places. Different strokes for different folks etc.

Comparing current UK RRPs for various brands - Scalextric, Carrera (both £49.99), Fly (£54.95), SCX (£57.95), Teamslot (£57.99), Slot.it (£64.95), Sideways (£74.95), Avant Slot (£81.99), NSR (£87.95), Thunderslot (£89.95) and Le Mans Miniatures (£115) - a Slot.it car is looking extremely good value for a beautiful scale model and a thoroughbred racer.

However, it's also about the breadth of the range - and Scalextric is streets ahead there, even of Carrera, in my opinion. For many non-hardcore-racers, it's the novelty and choice of models that's the attraction. Again, Slot.it (with Policar) have an increasingly strong range, with an excellent track system too. One big gap is for rally fans - but that's where Fly, Teamslot, SCX and Avant Slot do their stuff. Another gap is modern F1 cars - nothing new from Carrera this year in 1:32 scale. In terms of the US, Nascar is a gap too - but licensing for Nascar and F1 is notoriously difficult and expensive.

I think SRC should here have been mentioned too, but that's always easy in retrospect.
Well done, Andy Thumbup

Here's the latest video from Scalextric, running through the new range - including footage of some of the prototypes and pre-production samples...

Definitely worth a look Thumbup

Hi Andy,

Thank you for the clarification re the XJ-S and the Capri. That does make sense,  and it's good to hear that these two models will be revisited.

Given the way of the world at the moment,  and the huge increase in shipping and the rise of labour costs in China,  it is a brave move by Hornby Scalextric to go for so many new models.  Let's hope all of last years cars arrive, and this year's make to market this year.  Plenty of things outside of Hornby's control to scupper those plans though.....

You asked which liveries I would like to see,  so here goes......

The XJ-S in BRG, obviously!   I had forgotten the Macau livery, nice one  Thumbup

Capri's, well....  Fully agree with your suggestions.  Any Touring car from that period looks good in Bastos colours.
The Belga Gordon Spice/ Teddy Pilette Spa 24 hours winner definitely.  Great colour scheme.
Here's a few more ideas.

The Frank and Jeans livery. Very cool, and a proper period car.
    Hermetite.  Just good on anything!
The awesome Gitanes car of Ric Wood. Fab colours.
Different colour,  and graphic style,  Skid Scarborough's Track Marshall car.
Got to be  Triplex Gerry Marshall livery.  Unbelievable character,  and racer. Iconic.

That's some ideas from me.

Going to watch the video you've just posted.  Looks good Thumbup

I hate it when slot-car companies pick up on my ideas:-
