An open ended question but ....
#1

Any recommendations for a replacement inline (and sidewinder) motor for the Slot.it V12 and Scalextric S-can?

A Shark Evo NSR-3004?

Club rules for Saloons. Any 20k motor. The stock Scalextric motors are getting whooped but the 21k Slot.it is illegal.

The cars would be running on these Scalextric Sport tracks at 11v:

Lap length 98'. Main straight 23.5'.

Lap length 89'. Main straight 31.5'.

Hi,

The NSR Shark 20k is a good motor, you could also consider the Scaleauto SC008b tech 1 20K bit cheaper too.

Thank you. Hadn't thought of the Scaleauto motor.

Any idea which would have more acceleration and top end grunt please? Need acceleration out of all those corners but legs for the long straights.

The NSR has 164gms of .... 'torque'? The Scaleauto 216gms.

I know gearing, wheel and tyre sizes all play a part - but like for like which would be the better performer?

I’d go for the Scaleauto motor slightly better all round.

You can definitely feel the difference in the torque.

I would also add (when restocks arrive) the SRP 20k from Pendle's.
I have used a few of the 16k and they have all been close to spec with decent brakes.

The Scaleauto isn't a bad motor (They do often rev faster than spec though) but I think the torque specs are skewed, they don't seem to have the brakes of the other brands similar speed motors.
Having said that, with magnets on scaley track that is probably not as noticeable ...

Magnets? Magless racing on these tracks - and at home, when I can!

I did try a couple of Pendle 20k motors as a cheap option but they couldn't compete - unless they sent 16k's by mistake? Doubt that though - and it was pre-pandemic so they had plenty of PSR's in stock back then.

They were better than the Scalextric motors they replaced but seemed to lack a bit of 'oomph' on those big straights. Maybe I need to change the gearing sometime?

The NSR Shark 20 is an excellent motor with great midrange throttle response.

There will be some magnetic effect from the motors on Scalextric track which will help braking to a degree.
The SRP motors are different to the Pendle branded ones ;)

Doh! Now I'm torn. From experience I'm afraid I've discounted the PSR. Good bang for the buck and a great upgrade for home use - but hasn't cut it at the club.

At least it's only between the NSR and Scaleauto - but I still don't know which to go for.

Each will have its own merits - and supporters - so I've asked one of the leading club members to see which of those he'd suggest would best suit the track - but no doubt I'll still be dithering even then.  Tappingfoot
