I've just acquired a very nice lightly used Slot.it 'Racing' Porsche 962C representing the 1986 Le Mans car. On close inspection it appears to have 'Rothmans' logos under wheel-to-wheel 'Racing' decals along each side.

Is it a correctly liveried 'Rothmans' car cunningly 'PC'd' with 'Racing' decals over the top?

If so, how complete is the Rothmans livery underneath and how easy is it to remove the PC decal without damaging the underlying logos?

I don't want to ruin what is a very nice, clean, car but if it can be turned from a duckling into a swan fairly safely I'd like to  give it a try.     

Anyone confirm my suspicions, has done it and can offer tips please?

I think the car occasionally raced as 'Racing' due to TV coverage not permitting cigarette advertising.

No idea about your decals though...

Fairly sure that was Slot.It's intention.
As I recall, masking tape applied over the racing decal only pressed down firm, and then carefully peeled off should get it.
Just ensure the masking tape does not go over any other decals to be safe.

Brilliant! 

A bit scary at first but that worked perfectly. I started off small, with one of those 'Racing' decals on the rear 'fins' and it came off so cleanly I didn't think it had worked until I checked the wording on the car - and the 'ex-sticker' on the back of the masking tape!

The overlays seem to be printed on a thin foil so in 95% of the cases they came off easily in one piece. It was only a problem where I'd been overcautious and not rubbed the tape too hard where it was adjacent to other 'decals' - but I needn't have worried as, apart from the overlays themselves, the car seems to have very durable 'Tampo' printing.

Thanks for the advice - and thanks to Slot.it for coming up with the idea! A pity more manufacturers don't do it.

What a beautiful ROTHMANS Porsche I have now. For £19 (including postage!) all it's missing is one mirror and I see Slot.it have 'tearproof/crashproof' replacements for under £4 anyway. What a bargain buy

Done! It did come with the aerodisks on the wheels too - but I prefer the BBS's I found underneath.

The Slot.It XJR9 Silk Cut Jag had the same removable stickers over the true livery and I think Fly did the same trick with a few of their cars. It was never widely publicised due to worries over ciggy liveries and most buyers found out by word of mouth.

Slot.it did something similar by covering the Ferrari prancing horse with a removable sticker on some cars because of licensing issues.
