„Nya Racerbanan“, my first scenic track
#21

I find surform tools very useful for shaping foam. However, the small fragments you create are irritating, they stick to everything. If possible, best used outdoors.
Here, I have used the surform tool only on one small spot, which is a „takeaway“ part.
I need to be able to lift that away to climb up to the table, step over to the paddock for getting access to the window... Sweating

For thin foam sheets, 10 or 20mm thick, a sharp, thin knife cuts nicely and clean, without creating very much scraps. This is what I have used here.
I will later cover with a tile glue/sawdust mix.

I am sure there are many with more experience of this!

Anyway, I hope this is understandable and helps.

Tile glue is the part I was missing in my head.

I love puttering with gears

Common white PVC carpenters glue with a little pressure works fine for foam.

Thanks, Dreinecke!

You are of course one of those who has inspired me to have a go!
It has surprised me a bit, how fun it is to make scenery and take photos.
Photos also clearly show what can be improved...
I am afraid this will be a neverending story.

Without any doubt; it is!
Nice photo in the sunlight.

No track is ever finished.  Of course, I tend to move before then anyway.

The scenic part of a track is what really makes the hobby fun for me.

Since I make up the buildings and figures along the way, it is not straightforward! I try to roughly work my way ahead, section by section.
Later I will have to go another detailing round.

This will be a  shed for the pit crew.

For the rusty tin roof, I use traditional methods, pigments with oil and turpentine splattered on.

Dismembering Airfix soldiers again! I make new joints of steel wire.

Seen from the drivers' position.

Leaning forward you can get a glimpse of what is going on.

Looks a bit empty, more figures and detailing are needed...

I thought I'd hide the connection piece, so I have made a stand for the flagman with a little space for VIP guests.

I will have to make a barrier fence to live up to security rules... Checkeredflag
