Pit Lane on Scalextric Sport Track
#1

Hi all

Is it possible to incorporate a pit Lane on non digital sport track?

I’m using ARC air but not that concerned about losing the odd lap count when cars come into the pit.

I’m think of either the classic C190 pit Lane or could I use a digital pit Lane and mimic the signal to send a car into the pits somehow?

Any ideas?

Cheers

Probably the easiest way to go is the old Classic pit lane. There are plenty about and they aren't as expensive as they once were. The main issue is the shallow slot depth on Classic track and - of course - if you physically take the car to the pit, you can't use the excellent pit stop features in the ARC app. As always, compromise will be necessary.

The Classic pit lane allows both lanes to enter the pits - each has its own pit lane, running side by side and close together - and it does look nice and realistic. The mechanism is manual (the switches in the track piece), but if you delve into model railway technology, there are ways to mechanise the entry to the pit lane. If the pit entry is close to your driving position, the manual operation is not such a problem.

The digital pit lane could probably be made to work with an analogue track... However, in terms of realism it won't be great - you'd have to have a pit exit off each lane, one pit to the right and one to the left of the track. I've never seen a real racing circuit that does that. The situation where that might work okay is a track were you're always running solo and using both lanes (either with a single crossover or reverse loops) and would always be pitting from the same lane - like a Targa Florio circuit, perhaps.

Thanks for reply Andy

Some great information, really helpful.

Think I’ll go down the route of the classic pit Lane, especially as I’ve just bought one from eBay.

Nipping across to a local model train shop tomorrow for some build tools so will pick their brains on options for mechanising the switches

Cheers
