I am quite chuffed really, literally put the model together in a couple of days with spare bits around me. Had run out of some bits I wanted to use, so was not particularly expecting to do well.
The question is now, what to do with the Skid Pan winning TR7

maybe another off road candidate, like my I-Pace
Very interesting proxy topic

Total Train-wreck of a proxy for me.
After extensive testing of the car, the final step of fitting the proxy-suitable tyres got missed in the pre-boxing list for the car.
The NSR rubber I would normally fit was inadvertently left on the shelf and the test tyres (ortmann urethane) were left on the car when it was boxed.
Traction is King. Take away the traction and all is lost.
This is a mistake I will never make again.
Alan.

Glad there was a story behind the 'wrong' tyres, not sure what it says about urethanes.
I love puttering with gears

At the race course it's "horses for courses",
For us It's "Tyres for Tracks"
Urethanes work very well on some surfaces, not others.

Cars and goodies will be on their way later today. Those of you who need to pay return postage have been sent messages. Thanks to all who have paid!
I've also updated the
opening post so you can navigate easily to the coverage for each test.
I'm definitely up for hosting a 'refurb' race each year. The number of cars was ideal for a 3-test weekend - it could easily stretch to 15 without much trouble. And if anyone else wants to host an event, that would just add to the refurb fun.
I think I did mention that a TR7 refurb 'flash-mob' event at the UK Slot Car Festival would be great fun. The provisional 2022 dates for are 28 & 29 May. I'm sure we could 'borrow' one of the many public tracks for half an hour of us racing our own cars. I hope to be there both days. Sundays tend to be a bit quieter.
Here are a few final pics of the cars on the hillclimb...

Thank you for running the event.
My car was built to (hopefully) meet Slot Rally Rules for the 'Classic' class, so it has an afterlife ahead of it.

Glad to see a couple of the TR7s will be upholding Leyland's honour in other events! And their times on the ice rink compared well with a rally-winning SRC Porsche 914/6 GT.
All the cars caught the last post of the day, so should arrive comfortably before the Bank Holiday weekend.
I dug out my Amato Metro project car that proved to be super-lively and a lot of fun on our big WHO/digital tracks...
I shall be taking out the digital chip and changing the rear hubs. And giving it a lick of paint. I already have a can of 80s Rover Flame Red - the same colour as Rebecca's first Metro. I feel another Leyland Legends Refurbs thread might be necessary. And I guess we also have the Rover SD1 as a suitable candidate, should we want to continue with this theme. The Rover was a nice model though :-)

Hi Andy,
Many thanks for organising this event. Good fun had by all, and a Scalextric TR7 that is worth keeping....
My car was also on Urethane rear tyres, they work really well on my 35 feet routed layout, and go well on my 50 feet repainted Scalextric Sport Track, but obviously not spot on for this type of event. But to be honest I had more fun painting and applying decals than actually setting the darn thing up
I am quite happy to stage a rematch, either TR7 's again, or Metros, or how about Datsun 260z refurbishment...
It would be 3 stages, both the above permanent layouts, plus either my Ninco track, which requires the local village hall to set it all up, or my SCX chrono rally stage. Just don't expect Andy' s amazing production quality

I’m planning on trying to create a replica of my late mums 1989 MG metro, again in Bright Rover Red
It handled like a dog on the road in real life so hopefully I can build something that at least goes around corners without hitting a bush (ok that may have been my fault)
