81 days after I opened my Christmas present from my wife of an SCP analogue cartridge and a power supply, I get a car to run!

This is how I am feeling at the moment.

So...

I've got some bad news, some good news, and some bad news!

Having got a working set up, I thought I would test my old SCP-2 handle in the arrangement to see if it was actually working. I substituted it in the set up. Switched on. Green trigger light came on. I pulled the trigger...a short ascending whistle noise and the light went out. Nothing.

So I reverted back to the new SCP-2 handle that worked 5 minutes ago. Nothing.

At first I thought I had blown up the metal cartridge, but a quick check with my new multimeter showed that I had killed the power supply...0 volts.

So...

Bad news: I have burnt out a second power supply
Good news: I now know that it is the original SCP handle that is the cause of the problem
Bad news: In all my fiddling, I have obviously damaged the electronics within my original SCP handle. What chance is there of ever getting that repaired???

So on the hunt for another power supply, as I don't feel I can return this one as faulty goods!

P.S On the whole, I'm happy.

You'll have to contact the dealer from which you purchased the controller and see if they'll get you a new unit.

Here it is...my test track, powered by my third power supply, controlled by my second SCP.

Hi Jeremy,

My brain is saying "Where have I seen that track before?".

A bandsaw had an arguement with a few pieces of Scalex borders on my track. The bandsaw won. The borders were laid under the track. Lines were drawn with a fine marker. Chop chop, hack hack, deburr. Tada!

My track sits inside a 4' x 8' foot plywood table.

I like your inside guide rails.

I had s shorter layout with a crossover, but saw your layout previously and extended mine to match yours without the crossover.

A program called "Slotman" or "Slot Car Manager" was used to figure the layout. I spent an evening plotting tracks on a blank page. The system indicates the overall footprint while laying out the track. It was actually kind of fun.

The parameters were:

1) Standard curves only
2) Fits on a 4x8 table
3) Use as much track as possible

It was easy enough to use that HO and 1/43 tracks were easily designed soon after learning the program.
