Slot.it High Current Analogue Cartridge -

The minimal spec for the 'metal' cartridge states: -
- Operating even better at high current.
- May be used with any kind of motor for electric tracks, without important power lacks.
As an electronic learner, what does "operating even better at high current" mean? So, for example, would there be any noticeable difference in controller characteristics if I used this cartridge on my Slot.it cars on my home track compared to using the 'Home' analogue cartridge?

I use the SCP2 "metal" cartridge for club racing.
For the motors I currently use, i doubt that it brings any advantage
The "high current " is only useful if you have power supplies that can deliver the current into a motor that can draw that current.
I bought the cartridge as deal when I bought the scp2 with an eye on using it for BSCRA racing.
Be aware that there is no way to switch the polarity on the metal cartridge

Thanks Alan.
I suppose what I was trying to ask was whether something designed to work with high amps loses some of it's sensitivity when operating low amp motors.

The metal cartridge works well for me , even using weedy little s-can motors.

While I rarely use the capability for higher amp motors, the high amp/metal cart does provide noticeably better braking.
I really felt it when I temporarily used a regular cart.
Being able to out-brake an opponent can help quite a bit. :)
(non-mag racing on plastic and wood tracks of various kinds, mostly slot.it and NSR type cars with rubber tires of some kind.)

Yea,have used this cartridge for BSCRA (47,000rpm motor)style racing, didnt quite gel with it at first and reverted back to my yardstick controller Micek pro2.
Also, attemped use of this module in an 6 hour endurance race using SCR Porsches, proved to be a bit too much of a steep learning curve..
BUT..

.further exposure using this module with just piddly little S cans and a good fiddle with knobs (oh matron

)has opened my eyes and fingers to a new driving style...
Smooth,smooth and smooth

with help from Mr consistency...
With just a little PWM noise from the motors at low speed...
Finally gelled with it and eager to build on the expericence, once this poxy virus will allow us to return to some normality...
Yea yea,non mag,stock scalextric,NSR,Thunderslot,Sidways group 5,Slot it group C, gripper aftermarket rubber...

Two pieces of data.
Several users at clubs I race at had problems with SCP2. All of them were sorted by upgrading to the High Current cartridge.
Slot.it's 'other' Maurizio told me at Gaydon some years ago that he recommended using the High Current cartridge with Boxer motors.

I have an old SCP-1 handle with the stock cartridge, and an SCP-2 with the high current cartridge.
Can't say I have noticed any difference in braking. - Both have "okay" brakes - but not as strong as the high end controllers with bigger diameter cable and a relay half way down the handle to deliver a dead short.
The SCP handles have a huge potential range of sensitivity, to handle most any kind of RTR motor. So I doubt you will ever find a motor/track option they cannot be dialed in for, with or without traction magnets.
I am not sure why Michael's club experienced problems with some standard cartridge controllers, as they handle up to 5 amp peak
(a 60 watts stall motor @ 12v - no RTR motor even gets close) and 3 amps continuous. I used mine when we were on a Ninco track, with 21K boxer motors in Ninco Moslers running with about 400-500gms downforce from 4 or 5 magnets, chassis 1mm off the rails, and never had a problem.
(That is "well YOU try and shake it loose then" territory) :) :)
(We saw the light after a couple of years and moved to wood, and stopped embedding cars in the walls, and taking guys eyes out.)
But there is little difference in cost, so why not go big hee hee

I've gone big.
But most importantly, it comes in an orange case to match the standard SCP-2 controller rather than in a grey case shown all the photos.

As someone who takes design too seriously, I have to say that the weight of the wiring on the 'metal' cartridge is pleasingly floppy and heavy, and the inline 10A fuse holder wouldn't look out of place in a 10kva sub-station...
