1/24th cars bought in 2024
#11

I innocently gave my wife a lift somewhere today. She said be back in an hour. I had just enough time to get in trouble at the local hobby shop before having to return. Hey, she needed a lift. Right?

This was hidden in the pre owned section. I've had this car on my radar for quite a while.

Thanks for looking,
Ken

I was on vacation in Fort Lauderdale back in 2008, and visited the Thunderbird flea market. The owner of the flea market has about a dozen supercars on display right near where you can buy 2-pair of sunglasses for $5. A very odd place to see supercars.

The day I was there. The curator was starting up the cars and driving them outside the building for display. Several security guards helped keep people away while the cars were in motion. People are people and most wanted to get too close to the cars. The security was a bit frustrated. Meanwhile I sat on a park bench and just admired the cars as they drove by. I nodded to the curator as he drove each car past me. The last supercar was a Ferrari Enzo. Wow! what a car!

The curator drove the Enzo to the center of all the cars. Opened the door, and pointed to me. I looked around. Was he really pointing at me? He laughed when I looked around. He waved me over past the security guards. They let me pass. I was shocked. I got down on one knee at the open door as he started to show me the interior and tell me about the car. The one time patience really paid off. He was a super nice guy.

I saw this at Wings & Wheels hobbies in the pre-owned section, and it followed me home. It sure brought back some cool memories. I hope it will be a slot car one of these days.

Bought these BRM 1/24 Minis from one or other of the Slot Car Forums back in August.

On the left a mint boxed factory RTR car, with racing numbers added by the previous owner from the (sparse) factory supplied decal sheet. Mirrors are still bagged and in the box, along with the remaining decals. This MAY become a road car for use on a display at the 2025 Gaydon Slot Car Festival by removing the roundels. Can't make my mind up.

The car on the right is, I think, from the same seller (can't remember!) It's shown 'as received'. The previous owner painted and built it up from a white kit but the clear finish over the white paint - it's not bare plastic - has 'soured' and will need cleaning off at some point.

It has since been completely stripped down to the component parts, cleaned, all decals removed and rebuilt as per the red example. However the vac-formed glass and interior are just a friction fit for now, until I can bring myself to strip off the duff clear lacquer. I'm hoping to be able to do it without effecting the white rattle-can finish. If so, it too will run as a road car at Gaydon 2025, after which both may get decalled up as Historic racers.  Thumbup

UPDATE: Decision made. Racing roundels gone from the red Mini now.

Work in progress. The white Mini as it is at the moment.

Need to bite the bullet and get on with the next stage, cleaning off the grubby clear lacquer.

It's coming along but I've got cold feet now!

So I bought a BRM at a very low price - definitely not something I generally collect - but hey hi!!

Sadly one thing led to another - the addiction is very real - be very afraid ???

Bought these a few weeks ago from a house clearance after a collector passed away.

Apparently rooms were filled to the ceiling!

I got these, 20 quid for the pair.

I lived in Lauderdale for 6 years and would go into the Swap Shop about every time I got back into town (I worked throughout EU 8-10 months a year). This was 9-2009 cars...

I humbly thank you for the reminder DPJ. That's the Ferrari Enzo I got a close look at.  Thumbup

The curator was a super nice man.

However, the flea market owner had a reputation as a really mean/nasty guy with a lot of money. I had the displeasure of bumping into him when he drove through the market in his McLaren. I politely asked to take a pic of the McLaren. He said only if you take the pic from where you're standing. I just shook my head, waved him off, and walked away. I'll get a better pic from Google Images.
