Yes Hub, more pics will come -once it is finished!
There is some detailing yet to be done.

@Tibbs.Thanks for your interest!

About screens: Many scratch builders make their own vac-formers using a vacuum cleaner and some sort of heating to produce thin screens in any shape. I never got around to building myself one... Normally I use flat thin sheets that can be bent a little. Impossible in this case, of course!

This is an experiment to see if a screen could be carved... Not sure if it is a good idea. The screen gets very sturdy but might look a bit thick. But fun to test something new!

Anyway, this is how I made it. Starting with the outer contour making it fit the body.

Then, using electric tools, I shaped the outside form as desired. After that, I turned it upside down and hollowed it out. Finally, quite a lot of sanding and polishing by hand.
All in all, straight forward hard work...a bit time consuming.

These are the tools I have used, most of them are tools I use for making the wood bodies as well

Hope this is understandable!
Btw, If you are interested in woodcarving there is the ongoing Goggomobil build thread as well.

Cheers

Sorry, I thought it was already finished.
I couldn't see the cockpit inside.
The car looks really good.

Thanks, Hub!
Over the years I have often rushed through the last phases of my builds, resulting in stained windows and most kinds of mess.
This time I have decided not to! Slow and easy, slow and easy... Sweating

I've just realized the driver should sit a little deeper...

Thanks Carver,
that is very helpful.
I like the look of that little carving knife, looks comfortable to use.
I'll have a search for the Goggomobil thread.

I finally got it together. Sun

Despite imperfections, brutally revealed by the camera, I am very pleased with the form and character.
I wanted it to look low and small, and I think it does.
I don't know yet what I think about the experiment with a carved screen. It is very robust but thick.
On the other hand, vac-formed screens don't always look great blown up! What do you experts say?

The environment is there to give an idea of the size, and to draw attention from shortcomings... Bigsmile

It is made to represent Jim Clark's car as it was raced at Oulton park in 1962.

Must post one black and white too... Sun

I think the screen flows really well.

The lady sitting in the chair near the car doesn't look impressed. But I totally disagree with her, and think it's fantastic!  Thumbup
