As mere lad of 76 I offer my opinion with all due respect.
In the early 60's I used the standard wee Scalextric box with a thumb plunger. When 1/24 commercial raceways opened, I took up a Cox, a Towerstat, a Champion, and then an MRC (all thumb operated). My first experience with a Russkit trigger style (later to be the Parma) was very illuminating. I was faster the minute I changed from the MRC to the Russkit. I also found that the rather uncomfortable heat generated by the resistor in the plunger types was no longer a factor with the Russkit's top mounted resistor.
I adopted the transistor DiFalco adjustable when it first became available and have periodically updated it to the point where I have a very sturdy, reliable unit with adjustable brakes, modulation, and "traction control" all of which I put to good use when racing multiple classes in the course of a meeting.
I do prefer the trigger and index finger but may the Almighty bless all digits regardless of how they're deployed!
