@Tibbs.Thanks for your interest!
About screens: Many scratch builders make their own vac-formers using a vacuum cleaner and some sort of heating to produce thin screens in any shape. I never got around to building myself one... Normally I use flat thin sheets that can be bent a little. Impossible in this case, of course!
This is an experiment to see if a screen could be carved... Not sure if it is a good idea. The screen gets very sturdy but might look a bit thick. But fun to test something new!
Anyway, this is how I made it. Starting with the outer contour making it fit the body.
Then, using electric tools, I shaped the outside form as desired. After that, I turned it upside down and hollowed it out. Finally, quite a lot of sanding and polishing by hand.
All in all, straight forward hard work...a bit time consuming.
These are the tools I have used, most of them are tools I use for making the wood bodies as well
Hope this is understandable!
Btw, If you are interested in woodcarving there is the ongoing Goggomobil build thread as well.
Cheers
Carver
Thanks Carver,
that is very helpful.
I like the look of that little carving knife, looks comfortable to use.
I'll have a search for the Goggomobil thread.
